Went to the lake to do some shad re con and striper search and was going to leave early and change out the live well pump and return the junk batteries that only lasted 4 months to the Walmart... well plans are always changeable, got a text from Black47 asking if I was free for the rest of the day... told him I had made some nice size shad earlier and was looking for more, told him to head on up, stop at Gallions for some grub and drinks and ice, the boat was empty, he said he was on his way...
Dam trolling motor batteries were dying fast, but don't need them to chase boils and fish shad.
Picked Desmond up, headed back over to my spot, got some nice largemouth to go on the live and dead shad, didn't seem to matter, caught these nice units and went off to look around and show Des how to make bait, tuff when nothings working, tons of bait in the back of the coves, I can see 100 fish days coming real soon...
We work our way into the ski arm and went into a cove, we had it to ourselves and then all hell broke loose, fish popped up all over the cove for the next two hours, so much for fishing shad, time to kill striper's and slay we did, they bit the kpn, ripbait, kastmaster, we had doulbles and triples and quads going, hook the first put it in the rod holder and hook another, so much for Desmond cherry on fishing the striper boils...they didn't go down till around 5:30 I think, two boats came in on the last boil and it shut off. We waited talked to a friend of a friend, told him it was wide open for 2 hours before he got there, we were just lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
Well took off out of the cover made a lap around the ski arm went back in to the cove and waited a while to see if they'd come back up, there was 3 guys in a runabout who were a little touchee when I through on a fish that popped for a second close to them, yelled at me to go find our own fish... lol... I told him we had just wrecked this cove for two hours before they got there but if you own it it's yours and I left, good choice, it was getting late and we had one more shot at them, I guess when the striper gods are blessing you with fish it just keeps coming, we got into our last huge boils out in front of the west ramp, we got a fast 5 fish, lost my kpn right at the boat, watched that fish swim away with, I had another tied on and this one fish ate that thing so hard all you could see was the tip and the eyelet...lol
Desmond put the hurt to the last fish of the night as Jim the lifeguard was going by yelling on the PA to be off the lake by 7:45, what a day, what a way to break in a boil virgin.... tore them up...
