Hey Kid,
Hard to tell, but either a midshipman or possibly some kind of wrasse fish.
Either way, nice catching,
Robert

Have there been any legal size halibuts being caught off the jetty? I may head down there in the afternoon to try to drift for halibut after I finish fishing the wall for calicos in the morning.

I go with the Midshipman theory!
Based on you crappy pic I can still tell a few details in the fins and tail but the yellow color combined is pretty much what every one else called! Wrasses also have a similar body!
Did it look like this one I caught in NPH? Not to take from your post but only trying to help with your question!

I would not try to lip grab one with them fangs!
Couple of nice flatties in the mix also there!
