decided to take a last minute trip with some friends up to the june loop this past week. the weather was awesome and i had a great time...but the fishing definetly could have been better for me though...i've never been up there and done this poorly, not sure exactly what was going on :Crying:

8/4- Drove up this afternoon and checked in at the boulder lodge...a little pricey for what you get, but it has a nice view of june lake, so i won't complain. had a little bit of daylight left, so we hit up gull lake from the shore in the park. threw power worms, mini jigs, lures, and some powerbait for a big fat skunk...

8/5- woke up early and rented a full day boat out of gull. started trolling about 630am and didint hook up with the first fish till around 9am after trying a variety of diffent lures (caught him on a z spoon) and trolling about 5 colors down on the leadcore. stopped trolling and started fishing with some mini jigs and some powerbait for no luck. took a break and came back around 4pm. caught a couple more fish trolling taz devils and triple teasers 4-5 colors down, then decided to give up....slowest day on gull i've had in years, just could not find the fish. left and hit up rush creek till dark, managed to land one small brown on a panther martin, but nothing else.

8/6- woke up a little later and decided to do some creek fishing today. drove up to lee vining, really heavy fishing pressure up and down the entire creek. managed to catch a few nice bows on my favorite panther martin near the campground and up by the power plant. took a drive down to hot creek to show my friends since they had never been there....why'd they close it down to swimming?? anyways, from there decided to hit up the upper owens river, had a few nice fish chase my panther martin, but wasnt able to land any...

8/7- woke up and checked out of boulder lodge. decided to rent a half day boat out of silver lake for the afternoon before the long drive home. had our best luck of the trip there. caught a few soaking the sierra gold by the creek inlet, then caught a few more trolling black/gold rapalas about 3 colors down...and i lost an absolute monster of a fish! i never saw him, but as a was fighting him i could feel the sheer dead weight of the fish as he made runs towards the bottom before he spit my hook...had to be well over 5 pounds from the way he felt

Thanks for the report. WTG trying the Zekes ... wondered if it still worked. I think it's better in the Sierras

I've been really disappointed with Boulder Lodge ... they need to do some remodeling. Did you hit Carson Peak Inn and the Tiger Bar? Can't be a total loss if you did.

yeah i really perfer the yellow or rainbow zekes up there rather than the powerbait...it's not nearly as messy either. boulder lodge definetly had that "old" feeling to it, and i had the worst time getting sleep on those beds. i've never been to carson peak, but i hit up tiger bar twice, for breakfast and lunch. i was kinda dissapointed this time around because their service and food didn't seem like the quality i remembered it being...

Thanks for the report, the loop can be hit or miss sometimes but it is ALWAYS beautiful. I stayed at the Haven last time and thought it was pretty nice.

FWIW ... I did about 20+ years at the Haven opening day weekend ... great folks ... lower level ... last cabin on your right ... or maybe you could say the SW corner?
