View Full Version : Fish ID Help please.

I caught this fish Saturday morning on the rocks outside of MDR.
I've been looking up fish IDs but haven't even been able to prove to myself that it's a Rockfish or a Bass. The long third spine makes me think it's a sea bass but I'm not sure.

I know nothing about salt water, but looking and comparing, it looks like a Grass Rockfish....??

It might be. I was looking at that one too.

I was Calico fishing and mistook it for a Calico at first. Can they do that?

Take an DNA sample and send it in to Fish and Game! lol Just kidding! Either/or I don't think it is very common in our waters?

Grass rockfish.
I caught one a couple months back from the surf.

Damn that's a nice one.
BTW rockfish and basses cannot hybridize. Trying to breed the two is literally like trying to breed a horse with a human.

Thanks, It was bigger than the calicos we caught and we had some nice calicos.

Or that one guy they (one of those wierd but true shows on cable) did a story on who MARRIED his horse. Even consumated their marriage.. ugh..lol
