When this design makes it to an actual lure, it will be done with pearlescent paints.. so just picture the colors all metallic!

Yeah, the gill plates look odd, I didnt have a reference photo... Oh well. Fish dont think about stuff like that =P

I think it could have a touch more purple IMO..

Fishmounter's Golden Trout put me back into lure-Concept mode!

make it into a wrap......wrap a few balsa wood ones and . spar varnish the day lights out of them...be a killer bait. paint thin fins similar to this..but not with this much detail..this rocks!

http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/wooden-bodies-blocks/340200.aspx#

look into the 2 3/4" baitfish ones

Hmm... I dont wanna go with wrapping.. I know it would make it alot easier, but if I hand-painted this design, it would look about 12 times better than the digital painting =P

I looked around the net, and I'm gonna purchase some Pearlescent paints for realistic scales, and some Chameleon Paint, for an ultra-life-like iridescence. It's gonna be sweeeeet.

Thanks for the advice, though. I'll still try the wrap idea out, I saw some wraps that looked really good!

I seam to remember doing something like this a while back.
It catches feeshes too.
Keep at it.

I think you need a bit of metallic brown, some light metallic purple hues and basic green metallic hues in strategic places.
I also don't seem to think the live threadfin shad that I photographed and then copied for shape had that degree of yellow.

While you are at it,
incooperate fins. The little tiny brown swoops. makes the bait look great. Shape your own blanks.
All you need is that funky saw thing (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00062NESC/ref=asc_df_B00062NESC1650018?ie=UTF8&condition=new&tag=pgmp-809-95-20&creative=395165&creativeASIN=B00062NESC&linkCode=asm) and a nice sander. A dremel works for one off baits. Balsa or basswood is fine if you weight them correctly by testing. Use paperclips for linethrough line ties to the hook inside the bait... they don't rust and hold good sized fish no problem.

You can coat the baits in rod finish.
Everyone uses devton epoxy but wtf rod finish would work 10 fold better.
I used to use minwax urethane in a small jar and just dip my baits and spin by hand for a couple hours and repeat until happy. Rod finish would be much clearer and cleaner and even shock absorbing slightly more so than epoxy maybe.

Last edit:
Have fun! Put that design to work man!

Just cut up some balsa, stick some paperclips inside with epoxy to hold the hooks to the line tie for security, seal it once and then paint it and seal it a few more times.

Use a lighter to pop the bubbles.

It's a long process but pretty easy once you have your blank shaped. I did a few mice, crankbaits and jerkbaits and stuff BITD. I still bring them out every once in a while and they still catch fish and still hold up to abuse even though they are balsa and urethane.

Even the first few tries that were pretty crappy I still have them laying around and they still work.

Here's a brown topwater mouse with a white belly and a swiveling worm screw tail I made a year or two back. Big crankbait lip. Had it out the other day.

Yes. I can. In fact it's actually easier that way IMO.

Here's a purple-ish version, looks more accurate now.. still needs some browns, but eh.

Have you checked out Luckycraft's new "Threadfin" pattern? WHaddya think of it? Hm.. TBH, I expected better from Luckycraft... Still a good pattern, but kinda bland for a "new" design.

It's gotta be a fish-catcher though, if they extended it to the other models!
