Dave and Dave Jr were looking to get on some fish I told them that Pyramid has been good but the weekends are a zoo, but they wanted to fish and I told him well I think I can help you out in that area...
Jr's caught a few stripers before but never got to experience the "Boil" I told them I wanted to get there super early to try to get a decent spot in line... lol, meet at 4:15 at my house, well 4:30 rolls by so I fire out a text, ah were r u... ah just walking out the door, sure... finaly get here, we load up and head to Castaic and the ramps closed, got off at Lake Hughes, head to the storage and the electronic gate won't open to 5:00, nuts, we wait it out, hook up the boat, stopped at the Pilot for fuel, did I mention that chasing boils burn lots of fuel...
We head up the hill not to bad of line, about 4 fishing boats and the rest lake lice and boats.
still took forever to get to the gate.
Made a run looking for some early action on the surface and nothing ran back inside tossed at a few small boils picked up the first stipers of the morning Senior got a keeper the others were rats, made the rounds found a few more in the main lake, thing were getting tossed around by the lake lice so I decided time to break out the dropshot rods and go after some bass, the Stipers have been coming up better later in the morning.
Got into some bass, mix of smallys and largies, size was little on the small side but it's all about getting that lil tick at the business end of the line, then I felt a heavy feeling and new it wasn't weeds, made a reel set and pulled in big fish for the day, not bad I had big fish and small fish for the day...http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr349/sddave50/c8268ea2.jpg
We left the bass chewing and new it was time to find stripey, and find them we did, ran into the first of many boils for the next 3 or so hours, I had Jr on the front giving him first shot, he was a pro from the start, the boat was full of fish after each boil,http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr349/sddave50/78ed9c45.jpg we each had limits for the day, we kept 19 I think for the table, tossed the rest back, all nice grad of fish, there stuffed with shad when I cleaned them, the Daves are going to have a nice fish fry.
