I need meat for a taco party. Drove down to my neighborhood seafood market. Looked at the selection of rockfish. Did some math in my head. Put back my shopping cart. Went home. Loaded my boat. Drove down the 710. Launched my boat. ETA according to my fishfinder after leaving the breakwall: 15:47. Arrived at mark : VermillionHole34. Put on a JAX jig and a shrimp fly. Instant double vermillions. 2, then 4, then 6, 7,8, then last drop is a double, so that makes 10. Done in about an 1 hour. Clean fish. Drove home. Stop by Jerrys Mexican Grill and got me a veggie burrito. Arrived home. Clean boat. Opened a beer. Ate my burrito. Showered. Napped. Woke up. Went to taco party. Pictures of my day:

Hmmm...estimate of 2lb per cod. I need 10 fish. So that would be:

($6.99 x 2) x 10 = $139.80
LA County Tax: 9.75%
($139.80 x 0.0975) + $139.80 = $153.43 Market price for fish

After I took the picture they told me I had to delete it. I didnt. I will just blur their logo, so I wont be banned from there if they happen to stumble on this.

My lucky JAX jig and shrimp fly combo.

Trying to "match the hatch" of this. (not from today)

It works :D !!!

$20 truck gas + $30 boat gas +$12 launch fee = $63 Catch my own fish
$153.43 - $63 = $90.43 Savings

Thats it. I had fun and saved some money. See you all next time.

I like your style :Applause:

Fresh fish ??? How old is the Fish Market Crap ? Over a week ?
F O T (fresh on top) or did it come from the bottom of a fish hold ?
It always cracks me up when people go to a fish market for fresh fish. LOL
Look at the boxes by the dumpster. Thailand, China, Mexico Previously Frozen.

Yes you can find fresh fish at market but you really have to check them out,
Gills, Eyes, Odor ect.

Marzocchi, sweet post man! I absolutely love it! Another reason I would rather fish myself than to buy!

Very cool! lol most rockfish at markets are usually a week old. Aside from that if you're looking for "fresher" fish try an Asian Market next time. The one near my place always has fresh fish, hell it even has live sheephead and whitefish!

Probably less than that, seeing how you still have gas in the boat and truck that you didn't use.:Thumbs Up:

Any Taco pic's?

Over on the surf threads Arthur and the guys seem to be trying to out do each other on presentation of fresh caught fish for dinner. I would try but I haven't caught anything worth taking a pic.

Well that might be true, but we might need to start a post titled, Throw Down. I'll do it as soon I get something to show for my troubles.
Yea those dinners almost look to good to eat. Inspiring for sure. I make killer Fish Tacos, but as far as pic worthy, well they just don't measure up.
