Made it out for a couple hours this afternoon 7/28/11 to my local
spot in LB for some fresh air and a little fish'n time .

I grab my things from my trunk and head out to the water . The
weather is great ,with very light wind. Now i have one 3in swimbait
tied on and start casting , I'm on about my 5th cast when i get bit
and instantly this fish goes for the rocks ..... POW !! GONE !! ----

No prob , I'll just tie on another swimmie . I take off my back pack and
look inside to grab my swim-bait storage box ...... OH SH*# ---

DUh ! ... its just then i remember putting them on my desk and telling
myself ... " dont forget to put those back " .

Well here i am ! do i drive back home (15 mi) or should i find a local tackle
shop ??

So i dig deep into my back pack and find a pack of 4in fat ika's and 1 pack
of 4/0 ewg hooks ... hmmmm

What the heck , i rigged it up weight-less and weed-less style . I start
casting it into the heavy cover (rocks/grass) and just as i'm pulling it
through the grass ... tap ! tap ! ... swing and a miss ---

But hey , i'm on to something here ... :Big Grin:

I keep casting and draging the bait through the grass whice was about 20 ft
out , and the spotties would just slam it as i lifted my rod tip up through
the grass ... The hard part was they went straight for cover (rocks).

I button down the drag (10lb line) and tried to pull'em out !

Final count - 2 Spotties and 1 small calico .

And about 4 or 5 the got the best of me ... lol

Nice, I remember a few times that I forgot my go to tackle and forced myself to use something else and it worked!
Nice bass NFS!

Yeah funny how it worked out , dragging a bait through the cover was probably the
better choice ... lol

Thanks Klocked

I live close to the beach also and I have done that more than once. I float tube a lot and I have geared up outside thje car only to notice I was missing my fins, bait tank, tackle, etc... I am always switching up the type of fishing I am doing so I move tackle from one back pack to another tackle box and all the time and sometimes forget to put the stuff back.

Cool Photos - especially the one with the spottie in the water.

Way to stick it out and make the most of what you had to fish with.

Looks like the bays are starting to heat up, may have to do some Ninja fishing this week end!

Great job! Taking my 17 ft center console out tomorrow, fishing LB jetties. Imma keep that in mind. My pop was throwing his trout castmaster out there at the rocks and jigging. Surpised us when he landed two big sandies with that. I think with your report and some weightless plastics, we might kill shallow. If not, I always kill deep.

Good rescue. Lots of bait around them rocks.
Sorry about the threadjack but you got me thinking about mussels.

Last year I picked up some super stinky mussels at Big Fish to try a inside low vis spot @ Inner Bolsa Chica.

Struck out and headed home the wanted to a spot in Wilmington between the Holiday Harbor and the Floating docks marina, (no power or water at many these slips) next to the Drawbridge, across the channel from the Chowder Barge. I've caught fish here on swimmies there, lots of fish there, nobody fishes there.
This spot is at the end of the Dominguez Channel (FW urban river).
1st cast, Calico. 2nd cast Sandbass, 3rd cast Spotted Bay Bass. Less than 10 minutes there till LAPD rolled up and ran me out.
Been wanting to go back but haven't yet.

Good spot for a couple night ningas. Drop off a buddy with gear, park down by
Colonial Yacht Anchorage, Wilmington, ride a bike back to the spot, 1/4 mile.
1/8th of a mile open area where you can fish down below on the rocks.
This spot may be legal in a boat, yak, or dinghy since it is between 2 marinas.
No anchoring in inner harbor.
A trifecta on bass in 10 min has me itching to go back. :Secret:

Hey Chuck,
That's what makes the difference between a good angler and a great angler.
You gotta think out of the box sometimes.
Nice report,

Way to be versatile and making the best out of your day. Nice Spotties.

That bait kinda looks like a Gitz-it. We used em for small mouths back in Missouri with a lead headed hook. Tried one in the surf awhile back and caught BSP.
Good job sticking to it.
