Red Drum

I did a quick little afternoon trip aboard the “Red Drum” with Jason “jscrib” out of Marina Del Rey. Met a nice BD’er named Sergio who was kind enough to give me one of his extra fishing rags…thank you Sergio, that rag sure came in handy. Made in on the water around 2pm and was greeted by 10-15 knot winds and a tight lumpy wind chop, it's just the kind of conditions that my little aluminum boat does not enjoy…slam-slam-slam!
I came across some migratory Baja Sand Bass that wanted to chew the paint off our irons and the plastics off of our lead-heads.
Jason’s first drop with the iron produced this nice Sandie.

My first drop produced a nice chunky Cloud Bass on the swim bait.

Then Jason tries a swim bait, and again it was instant bendo on Mr. I've Got Clouds.

I then said, “ah what the heck, let me try an iron”, and this Sand Bass eagerly ate the iron before it ever made it to the bottom...I love when that happens.

Then a couple Chocolate Bass decided to come out and play.
Brownie on the plastic, sweeeet!

Then the Sand Bass moved back in.

I changed over to a swim bait and got slammed by a bigger fish and ended up playing some serious tug-o-war with the Jackpot Sandie of the day, a fat 8.1 pound Sand Bass. This pic was taken with Jason’s camera.

The result of Jason’s last drop of the day, another fat migratory Cloudie.

All fish were released to make babies and to fight another day.
Just another epic day of catching out on the big pond. Can’t wait to do it again. HOOK-UP!!
Till next tide,
