Decided to hit the southern end of OC this morning. Hit it early around 0530 with a little grey light and haze. Met my buddy Sam and it was time to fish.

After tips from DockRat i now had a better set up and plan of attack. All new 6lb trilene with 1/4 egg and 18" leader. Also i busted out my new spagetti strainer and had bait galore.

We were tossing the crabs about 30 feet out and after 30 min. got my first bite, a clean little Perch. Not to exciting but at least the skunk was off! :Big Grin:

Then few minutes later cast out and get hit hard, this one was pulling drag! Sure is fun fishing Saltwater with a trout rig. First Shovel Nose on the trout rig, too much fun!

Then look through the bait strainer and saw my first soft shell, hook it on toss it out and 2 seconds latter, FISH ON! First Corbina! I was stoked!

Then my buddy Sam finally gets hit! (Something big?)

After the Corbina i noticed my leader was sorta jacked but decided not to replace it. A few cast latter big hit and i was getting dragged up and down the beach then BINK! Leader broke! It was at least a 6' Corbina Screaming up and down going for the border!

New tip! Change leader after every fish with 6lb!

Thanks again for all the tips you guys they really paid off, cant wait for next time!

Sorry, but did you say a 6 foot Corbina? Or is that a typo? :Secret:

I think he meant 6-lb. a 6-lb corbina is pretty strong.

Yeah, it was a slight exaggeration. Never saw it so I can only speculate.

On my way back to the truck a guy with a 14' pole pulled in a fat spot fin. Had to be close to 24".

So I know there are some big fish at this spot!
