Red Drum

Since the traffic was so light over the weekend due to the Carmageddon scare, I decided to do a little fishing in the Santa Monica Bay. Had to take the long route through downtown LA, to get down to Marina Del Rey. Made the 32 mile drive down to the harbor in 35 minutes…sweet! Got on the water at 11am and fished till 8:30pm. Invited my good fishing buddy Jason “jscrib” to join me on the trip.
Here is Jason getting all excited about going Bendo!

Eventhough the 405 Fwy was closed when I got on the water, Bendo Boulevard was "Wide Friggin' Open" when we got to our first spot on the migratory Sand Bass…lots of double hook-ups.

We left the Sand Bass biting and tried a Rockfish spot.

Nice “Never-Die” that had a penchant for the plastic swim bait.

After catching some Rockfish we went a critter-fishinf for a couple hours and caught a bunch of Sculpin, Mackerel, Blacksmith Perch, Brown Rockfish, Senorita’s, Smelt, Calico Bass, more Sand Bass and a Sheephead and 7 Triggerfish…plus we got humbled by a couple big “No-See-Ems” that broke our lines…ouch!

Fat & tough fighting Triggerfish...that fish pulled like a mini-tuna.

We ended the day fishing the sundown bite for Calico Bass. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h177/Big_Drum/VJJuly172011SMBtrip022.jpg

Had another great day fishing on the big pond, plus I only burned 4 gallons of fuel and the 405 fwy was open for the ride home…nice!
Can’t wait to do it again. HOOK-UP!!
Till next tide,
