I took Dennis out on one last fishing trip before he headed on his family vacation a couple of days ago. I took him up the coast to the Deep Hole for some of the big bass that lurks out there at night. It was exceptional. Lots of big calicos and sand bass. Doubles were the norm. My arms were sore the morning after. Fun and warm night. All bass released. Pictures:

Since Dennis is a jerk and he is on vacation, I had to find a replacement for him. Called my old friend...let's just called him bob cause he doesn't want his face or name on the internet. I have not been fishing with bob for over a year and he was kind enough to take the trip on very short notice. I wanted to end my workweek with some more bassing. I did not want to hit up the local stones with all the pressure it has recently, so we went looking for the migratory sand bass in the SMB. We found a very big volume of them out in open just outside the harbor. I marked this spot 3 years ago and they were right on it. My meter was lit up from 20 feet all the way down to the bottom. We could not hit the bottom before hooking on to a fish. Mostly 1-3 lb fish. If we were lucky enough to get near the bottom, we were rewarded with some 5+ lb fish. Most of the bass were released. Bob was able to take home some sand bass for a couple of meals. Pictures:

It was nice to burn very little gas this time out. Straight to my first mark and I found the migratory on the open sand.

White belly.

It was pretty much WFO. The sand bass were very active near the top of the water column. I tried getting a picture of my swimbait right underneath the waterline where they came up and engulf my bait. This is the best I could do.

They were pretty thick down there. If we wind up our plastics too fast, we would accidently snag them.

Happen on quite a few occasions.

We both tried the tandem plastic rig, but the best we could do was 3 between us. Dont worry about the welfare of those bass on deck. Bob is probably cooking them for dinner right now.

I was prepared for the fishing the migratory. I had my grundens on and tried my best not to get jizzed on. My skiff was a cesspool and didn't fair too well.

If we got pass the mid water column we got some decent bass.

But if we got to the bottom, we were handsomely rewarded.

Thats it. I got to fish 4 out of the 7 days. My work week went well. See you all next time.
