I am going to break the report down into two sections for todays installment.

First off we had the 2nd Double Digit Cat of the Season checked in today. Nick Vega of Garden Grove checks in this 13.3 Blue Catfish. Nick was fishing from the trees in the Santiago Flats. Nick was fishing with 65lb power pro and flylined Macerkal when the big Cat bit. Nick also released his Blue to fight another day as well.

Irvine Lake encourges the release of any Catfish species over 10lbs and it is mandatory that you release any fish over 20lbs. By releasing a fish over 20lbs the angler earns a complimentry entry pass into Irvine Lake. If you release a fish over 50lbs you earn yourself a compd motor boat. If by chance you break the current lake record it is a $1,000 cash money to you. Going to bring it up to the bosses about breaking the world record next?

Part 2

While temperatures have sizzled as of late (all most to triple digits during the day) the Catfish and Bass bite has been just as hot. This week has been crazy with a ton of limits being checked in and a couple of bigger fish (so far) being checked in. It seems the key to getting bit is being in an area with some shallow structure. The fence at trout island and the trees have been really popular spots as of late with fish being taken in other locales as well.

The bait guys have been using as of late as been either shrimp or mackeral. I can not stess how important it is to fish your baits flylined, which means ABSOLTLEY NO WEIGHT!!!! All most every angler that I talked to that was successful was fishng their baits flylined. Guys that where not getting bit had weight and where just getting pecked at all night. Make sure to soak your bait for no more than 30-45minutes. If your bait soaks any longer I would reel it in check it to make sure it hasnt gotten pecked clean and rebait or recast with more attractant on it. Yes that stinky stuff works really well.

Nick Vega and Eric Hagen check in with this limit of Cats on Friday night topped by a 7.0 Channel.

Lawerence Taylor of Sierra Madre gets not only his limit of Cats but also scored his limit of Crappie as well. For the Cats LT used Mackeral dipped in Hog Wild (the stinky stuff ) and for the Crappie LT used Atomic Tubes in the Peral Color.

LT's biggest Crappie went 1.8 and was taken on the Atomic Tube.

Hopefully I will have more pictures for you guys later as I have a lot of people on the water tonight and fishing has been white hot.

Jimmy

Nick also teamed up with Eric Hagen on Friday night to land this quality limit of Cats topped by a 7.0lb Channel.
