Got to the water about 6:20 and saw Sublimesteve at the launch ramp, 11 & 12 parking lot. Talked a little the hit the water and headed east to the rising sun. Trolling a super duper I get a couple hits early but then it dies down. No bites at the honey hole so I keep going to the end of the lake and bam. It's fighting pretty good but staying down, get it to the tube and....

a small cat fish on my super duper.
I kick around to the south side and it is slow, but I finally get a BG. Kick towards the island and go inside the cove and I'm trolling a super duper and a crappie jig. Crappie jig pole is bent in half. Fight for about ten minutes, 2# test and light pole. Finally it tires itself and I have a 13" LMB

The last photo I was more worried about dropping the camera then anything else, I have bad arthritis in my right hand. The wife would have killed me.
There were a few people catching BG over there but nothing of any size. Pretty slow this week.
I decide to cut straight across the lake towards 11 & 12 and a little over half way the SD pole is bending and I bring in a big fat female.
http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/h326/kelima559/BGII070911.jpg
Release her and get back over to my honey hole and only catch a couple more on a crappie jig, deep. I would head away from the shore until I felt the water tempature cool and fish.
About noon I decide to head back, I'm trolling deep again and right before I get to the ramp my rod is bent and the drag is screaming. I have 4# test on this SD and I just can't turn this mother. Just as as I finally getting back some line I notice a BIG loop in the line on the spool and I am getting pucker butt. Well the loop got caught on the little tab on the spool where you can hook your line and SNAP.....there goes my lucky SD. I guess it was about time I get a new super duper.
The fish are spread out and in deeper water. Might take the next couple of weeks off to get caught up around the house. Or I just might go fishing next Saturday :Big Grin:

Nice! I think I saw a few FNNers traveling between Lots 11-12 and the Cove/Dam while I was with my boy. The kicker is, there were so many high testosterone jerks parked and fished at the inlet close to the Sail Cove that made my freaking blood boiled. Some knuckle head start spitting fighting words at me and my boy for encroaching onto their 350 feet off-shore casting line territory as we search for possible schools of gills?! What the freaking crap. I should have my family hang at the beach while my son and I fished at the Lot 11 and 12. So, the other two yakers crossing into his path, he didn't say anything? What about 3 tubers within the 450 feet proximity? Or how about the two inflated boats full of Asians? Dude, someone got your balls in the grip and you start pissing off at us instead? Sorry for the rant, but man, should have joined you guys over there for the fun instead.

Reminds of the time earlier at Jenks Lake where the tube next to me catches a fishing pole. Yep he drags up a fishing pole from the bottom of the lake. It was right about there, out deep that I was broken off and learned to occasionally check my line for twists and loops.
#AD Did that knucklehead have a couple of kids in the boat w/him? I ran into a guy on the southeast side that caught a LMB at sail cove earlier in the morning. I know it was true because he had it on his stringer. It was a toad, wish he had C&R but he was keeping it.
Fishing was slow, I have got to get a fishfinder next year, I couldn't find schools of fish only the occasional one or two fish. Quantity was down but size and quality of fight was up.

Just a heads up. Walmart in La Quinta is clearing out Super Dupers - 1-1/8" and 1-1/4" - $2.00 each. Not sure if it is the same at your local Walmart but I bought 2 each and they still have about 8 left.

I'll definitely test the additional weight limit on the pontoon's left side to see if can support a bit more weight. My boy is only 60#. My wife tried it with us last time, it nearly put us in the water  but the pontoon was already loaded with 400# of total weight.

The knucklehead was shorelining alone or with some of his buddies, right next to his full size van, parked next to his set-up camp (must be there overnight), a grey inflatable with a motor on it, and a heavy ocean rig with a weight that can cast up to 450 feet (since was 5 feet shy of hitting our pontoon during his cast to threaten us about his territory). If my boy wasn't there, I would have had a nice heart-to-heart talk with him about there's no such thing as his territory in a public domain. It's Uncle Sam's property that's he on that he needed to learn to share and be polite. I know about the guy that caught the LMB with his son and nephew. The LMB was 12lbs. He caught it when we spotted a large school of large fishes down below as they just passed us. The son snagged it big with a red plastic worm, probably 6 inches, with a 1/8oz weight for a show sink presentation.

Kelster - Nice report and pics. I was there late and the fishing was slow until around 6:30pm. Shad were busting all around the southeast end.
AD - It sucks when steroid boys take their anger out that their testies are shrinking on everyone else. Especially when there are kids around.
Steve - You are always welcome in my boat.

See ya on the lake

That's the second catfish on a lure I've seen on this site today. I think it's a White Catfish, if I am not mistaken.

Let me know when you get back, having a fishfinder will help locate where they have moved to. They are deeper now and it is hard for me to find that structure.
Lefty- Could be it was only 6 inches and a light color but gave me a good fight on light tackle.
Tagg- didn't see much shad all day, that is what I've been looking for and doing well to catch fish.

No, it was a baby channel Catfish. See them every once in a while. See the black spots and black whiskers, fairly slim head...

Thanks. Has to do with being on the float tube and you are so involved in what is going on around you. W/o any kind of electronics forces you to pick an area and look/feel for what the fish are feeding on and then finding that in your tackle, oh and a alot of luck (trolling a super duper). As I have said before patterns are changing so I will have to adapt to keep up the good luck. Hope to see some more of you guys out there in the coming weeks. I may have to hit up Bernasconi beach area.

Even if you have a fish finder, it's still touchy feely. It's all up to them if they want to take on the baits. You can have a whole school swirling down below you, but if they're not interested, nothing will make them bite. But, a fish finder is good to find those schools, and learn their patterns.

AsianGuy is right .....the electronics will help you find them but getting them to bite is a different story. I have fished the shore for a long time until this year when I decided to get a boat and I have learned a lot from not having electronics......of cours I just got a fishfinder on my boat last month and it has helped a lot...lol.

Fishmounter, I think you're correct now. It looks like a baby Channel Catfish. I just caught two White Caffish yesterday at Silverwood, and they didn't look like the one in the picture. I have caught White Catfish around the size of Kelster's in Perris before, but never a baby Channel Catfish before.

Kelster, I hope you don't mind the extra report, but while we are on the subject of catfish, I am attaching a photo of the 2 Whte Catfish. I identified them carefully. They don't really look white, and their color is variable, but they look a lot like large bullheads but with a forked tail like a Channel Catfish. They have fewer rays on their anal fins (19-23 and I counted 20 on these) than Bullheads plus assorted other differences. One was 13 inches long, and the other, 12 1/2.

I caught them between about 7 - 7:30 p.m. after it got shady from the rocks to the right of the boat ramp at Silverwood. They bit on nightcrawler pieces and were only about 10 feet from shore. I also caught a small, fat bass and a relatively large Sculpin. I was actually targeting catfish (rare for me) or stripers, because I've already got a bunch of panfish, trout, even walleye and yellow perch in our freezer already.

I fished on the Silverwood docks earlier (still allowed but the gate makes it looks like it's not. The fishing was lousy there, anyway. I just saw one 10-11 inch striper caught by one other fisherman.

Fishmounter knows about our kittens. There they are still mobbing mommy's mammaries on their third month birthday a few days ago. Daddy kitty was relaxing nearby. It's quite the cat family.

The trout is the first one Eunice caught from Panguitch Lake, measured at 16 inches. The photo was taken just before serving it to our daughter in Rowland Heights.

Thanks for letting me share, Kelster, and if all goes as planned, my next fishing report should be from Taiwan.
