This year's offshore mix seems to be lacking compared to this time last year. The patties seem to only be producing hit-or-miss hookups even on the yellowtail. Reports of yft ytail and dodos under the patties as of now, but they arent biting yet. They were catching dodos in july last year, but this year they havent really showed in good numbers yet.
it seems to be like 2005, where there were only albis and a handful of bft.

Anyone venture a forecast or a guess at why numbers are lacking?

..sure hope it heats up in the next few days

gota be something to do with the warmer water this year. as i recal the albies like to stay around 65-68 and are usualy on the edge of a curent. as for the yellows and dodos.... who knows man. bait is a plenty but maybe they havent found a reason to come north yet.

it has to be the giant squid, all the fish must've been spooked off, delaying a lot of what's supposed to be happening. its not just dodos and yellowtail, everything has been delayed this year, sand bass spawn etc.

Thats a good point, the squid didnt come as strong last year, and the sand bass havent smacked the flats like they should have

i read an article about the giant squid that said they were basically destroying the gamefish populations. The giant squid eat anything and everything in sight. And due to a lack of sharks and whales there isnt much left that will eat the squid. except maybe us!!!
