Looking for an outboard

Hi, I have a project 12ft Valco boat I'm working on, and I'm looking to buy a descent outboard motor to put on it, 8 to 25 hp. anyone selling anything? looking to spend around 500$. Nothing broke, a motor that runs, and something newish, no vintage ones my grandfather used in his teens lol.

I am sure that you will find something decent in that price range. You may be going back to the 80's for a 15-25hp and the 90's for a 9-15hp. The deals are out there. I just sold a 15hp Evinrude recently for $500.00 and the thing ran like a top. I sold the boat it was on seperately with a smaller 8hp outboard that was 7 years newer (90's) and also ran fantastic.

Don't be afraid to buy something, and I wouldn't spend more than $500.00. There's really no need unless you want a 4 stroke to go to lakes like DVL.

Good luck, be patient, and your motor will come to you. Just scour CL every single day.

Thanks for all your help guys, I found a really good one. I just picked up a 1994 gamefisher 15hp 2 stroke, in very good shape, looks and runs excellent. I just changed the gear oil and spark plugs just in case, i didn't need to but i did anyways. I paid $300 for the motor, gas tank, and another motor (not working) for spare parts. I think I got a really good deal. what do you guys think?

Good to hear you got a good deal. Make sure the impellar/waterpump is working well. I make a habit of checking the water flow coming out of my motor each trip. If you're not getting a good flow, check to make sure the hole isn't plugged. Don't run your motor if there isn't a good steam of water coming out of the cooling system.

thank you....I just ordered a new impeller just in case and am going to change it myself, since boat mechanics charge an arm and a leg for it, thank god for youtube hahaha.

I actually saw this one in person. It's about a 2005, but badly corroded and scratched up and poorly cared for in general. The guy does not have the safety lanyard or a proper fuel hose and fuel tank. He offered it to me for $300 AS IS, but I still passed if that gives you any idea of the condition. I've owned a lot of clean, well-cared-for used outboards in my day, but this isn't one of them.
