Backside Catalina sea bass!!

This report is actually from last week but I've been so busy I couldn't post the pics


Anyways made a day trip over to catalina. Got there by noon and fished the usual spots on the east end for no love.
Then we settled into the squid grounds over at China point/Ben Weston for the afternoon/evening

First solid hookup I farmed cause my reel shot off the seat.

2nd hookup was on my white iron with 2 pieces of fresh dead hooked on it.
Brought it onto the deck, nice 26 lb WSB!





Third hookup came when the sun was way down. Full head shakes and everything but the fish managed to cut my line. These sea bass have some teeth!



4th and last hookup came at around 11PM on a 3/4oz sliding egg sinker with fresh dead squid. Fought this one all the way to the boat thinking its a bat ray.
Lo and behold, sea bass number 2 hits the deck right at 30 lbs

pulled anchor at midnight and headed back into the barn

i was thinking that too! But somebody JUST got a 76 pounder on BD. a tanker of tankers!! Hey but third biggest aint bad right? haha

Hi E.A.R.G.,

WTG on the WSB ....... 2 to boot !! Reel shot out of the seat !! ha ha ha Know how that feels more than ONCE !! couple times the reel foot was not seated properly. Another time ..... the reel frame seperated from the foot. I look down and the foot is still in the seat with me holding the handle for dear life. Put the rod between my legs. held the reel with one hand, cranked with the other !!

Again ..... nice goin' !!
