Hit LB harbor Saturday, took Hiros boat but Hiro had to work..

Brought a buddy Dave along

We fished Gulp alive minnow’s on a ¼ oz jighead

Sorry, I didn’t take any pics…got in a fishing frenzy and simply just didn’t stop.
Next time I’ll be sure ta slow down and take some pics..

Got there at dawn..

1st cast produced a short halibut for me…

Worked the zone real hard as I figured there were more around..

It was true…

Picked out a couple more short halibut bout 19 ½ - 19 ¾’s

Landed 3 spotties

Dave landed another 19” plus..

This all went on in the 1st hour or so…

Solid bite till the tide turned….

Tide started out and the bite was very slow…

Worked hard…scratched fish out here and there..

Ran around and tried some other zones I had not seen yet
(this was my 2nd time ever fishing in this harbor)

Raked at the kelp patties along the outer jetty line..

Still slow but scratching them out..

I landed a few Calicos and Johny Bass and so did Dave..

Tried outside of the harbor….

Dave landed 2 short white seabass on some sqid and a sandbass while I flylined a live mackerel for “U know who”

I knew it was way late to target the big game but I figured what the heck..

I did get 1 good run out on the mack but it spit after about 10’-15’

Mackeral were wide open if U wanted them….

Pounded the inner regions again for more scratchings of bass, lizard fish and 1 pancake flattie..

Real fun time out there but nothing really huge, we did catch some real good quality Spotted Bay Bass and Johnny bass but we let em all go.

Ended up:

Dave
1 Halibut
2 WSB (squid)
2 Johnny Bass
2 Calico bass
1Sandbass
Many mackerel
5-6 lizard fish
2 queenfish
1 sculpin

Gary
6 Halibut
4 Johnny bass
3 Calico Bass
4 Spotted bay bass
1 sculpin
Many mackerel
2-3 lizard fish

Good Job Gary. Try Wall Drifting the ouside. You can set up at Angels gate then drift towards LB.
I've fished 2 - 3 hours drifting the outside with the motor off, the onshore pm drift keeps you 50' - 75' off the rocks. Average depth is 55' on the outside. More Legal Halibuts on the bottom and big Calico's on the swimbaits.

There is alot of short SWB in the Port of LA/LB. By the Queen Mary too.
