Had plans to drive South this morning to fish with a future S.W.A.T. recruit prospect, Justin Oceanside had some great intel to share and wanted to show me a spot in his backyard.
So we arranged a meeting spot on the beach and started the mission countdown. The thought did briefly cross my mind to abort and instead, head back to the A.O. where I was fishing with John (Klocked) yesterday when he nailed a beautiful White Sea Bass (check out his report!).
Not a chance, even if the Yellowtails were running in the surf in that area, a commitment was made and will be kept. :Big Grin:

Arrived at the A.O. a bit too early, geared up and walked down to the sand while it was still dark. Walked along the edge of the water for a few minutes to survey the conditions.
Overcast skies, light on-shore wind. Swept my hand through the surf... wow, the water feels warm, probably at least 65 degrees, they should be stirring out there I thought to myself. Moderate amount of salad on the sand at the edge of the surf tells me that there will be a good amount of it in the water as well. Indeed it was, moderate to heavy salad condition made working the LC a bit frustrating at times today. Outgoing, slow receding tide. Swells 2-3 feet, a bit high, but at slow intervals. Too dark to see if there was any baitfish presence. But recent intel suggested that this area had a heavy concentration of Grunion during the run last week. Made my choice of what to throw easy, just enough light now... I tie on a MJ Herring LC, a nice Grunion look-a-like and let it fly.

Mission duration = 5:15am - 9:00am
Arsenal = Various S.W.A.T. issued Lucky Craft Flash Minnow 110SP

Only about 4-5 casts into the session and I get a solid grab, the drag ran for a couple of seconds, felt solid with a few headshakes and then nothing... Damn, I hate it when that happens.
I whispered to myself, this had better not be one of those days... Then the cup is half full side of me kicks in and I thought... hey, that's a good start, they are here. Where there's one, there are bound to be others.
5:20am, where is Justin...? I look down the beach and see a dark figure walking towards me in the distance. That must be Justin... come show me what you got buddy.

Justin walks up behind me and I kid you not, I turn my head to greet him and the LC gets hit...
I laughed and said to him, "Dude, you're good luck!" :Big Grin:
Only a short Hali, but confirmed that indeed, they are here!

This is NO exaggeration, Justin can attest to this. I proceeded to nail & land three Flatties on three consecutive casts, only 10 minutes into it and while it was still dark. :Envious:
Gotta love it! :Dancing Banana:
Here are the three, all in order...

Cast #1

Short Hali 20"

Cast #2
Short Hali, probably around 16"

Cast #3
Legal Hali! 23" (Released) This fish is lucky that I caught it so early in the session and didn't want to drag it around with me all morning.
Hope I can get another one later for the "Iron Chef".

Then Justin goes bendo...
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/Wingnut%209/008-12.jpg

But crap, a Flat fish of the WRONG kind, Frisco hooked.
Instead of being upset, Justin said to me, "Hey, the Skunk is off!" I like that attitude Justin. :Thumbs Up:
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/Wingnut%209/009-12.jpg

Fast forward a few hours... Nothing but a bunch of short Flatties a few Perch for the longest time.
Justin caught 4 or five and I got 8 or 9, all shorts with a few Perch mixed in.

Here are a few pics...

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/Wingnut%209/023-7.jpg

Then... tragedy. It hurts me to even write about this so I can only imagine how disappointed Justin must be.

We were both throwing to a nice trough at an outer break when Justin goes bendo. I looked over and saw a nice bend in his rod and a ton of headshakes. Looks like a nice Hali. He fought the fish for about a minute and just before it was about to show color so we can see what it was... the LC comes flying back at him.
I yelled "SH*T!" and Justin just shakes his head, checked his hooks and recast to the same spot.

I couldn't believe it, a couple of casts later, he goes MAJOR bendo AGAIN! :EyePop:
His drag was screaming and I can tell that this fish is stronger than the last and was working him pretty good, taking him to the right. I fast cranked in my LC and stood behind him and snapped a pic.
This fish was taking straight drag and running parallel to the beach.
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/Wingnut%209/015-12.jpg

This time, after 2 or 3 strong runs, the fish broke him off... LC and all.
Unbelievable, my heart sank and I tried my best to console Justin as I can see the disappointment in his eyes.
But I knew that nothing I can say will make him feel better, until he put another quality fish on the sand.
Pure power and speed... we concluded that it was probably a big White Sea Bass.
One that is now dragging 50 yards of line and a Metallic Sardine LC hanging from its mouth.

Well, now it was almost 9:00 o'clock and Justin have to leave for work so we started working our way down the beach going back towards the car.
Somewhere in that short stretch, I said to Justin, "I guess the Iron Chef won't get her Halibut today..."

I spoke a little too soon... :Envious:
http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/Wingnut%209/027-8.jpg

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/Wingnut%209/017-9.jpg

After I landed the fish, I checked my wader pocket for the measuring tape and found that I forgot to zip it up and the tape was gone. But it was a pretty safe guess that this was a legal fish, even when figuring in the shrinkage.
When I got home and measured her, she taped out at 27 inches.
Maybe I'll post up some dinner pics later...

Justin, thank you for inviting me to come down and fish with you. I know that you are undoubtedly still disappointed, but that's fishing... sometimes the fish wins. Believe me, when you put the next monster on the sand, what happened today will be a distant memory.
You definitely got what it takes to fish with the Brotherhood... Looking forward to hitting the surf with you again soon. We have to start working on that project that you and I were talking about. You work on getting the clearance, I'll put aTeam together. :Secret:

Thanks for tuning in to this S.W.A.T program everybody... until next time, go out there and get yours!

Awesome day and the perfect ending to your outing with a nice legal for your Iron Chef.

Justin, sorry to hear about the lost fish, but the season is still young and I predict you'll be putting a quality fish on the sand in no time.

I just don't know what to say.

Arthur when I first read a post you wrote I thought, ah this guys is just lucky. Little did I know you are a Master, a PHd, a fishing god for sure. :Rolls Eyes:

Justin I am sure was blown away on the 3 for 3 and to get a kicker on the way back to car. Heck I am. If I were him I would be scratching my head about what you were able to pull off in such a short time as much as the loss he experienced. Sucks when that happens.

Justin, thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work and always post the fun with pic's.
Arthur, I hope to throw down a big fish report Thursday night. Won't be surf report. Hoping on a boat  Wish me luck, I need some about now.

The Planets must be in alignment or the world is coming to an end! NOT!

I thought you were going to be to busy to fish according to a corporate memo you posted a while back! It seems like you are getting out more than ever.

My bosses are getting pissed at me as I keep requesting to change my days off. I'll take Sun/Mon, No Fri/Sat, No Mon/Tue, No Tue/Wed, to be able to fish with the SWAT Crew!

Congrats on another great day in the surf working with the new recruit!

Justin,

It looks like a fun day out there! Don't let Arthur intimidate you on your home turf!

Arthur and Justin..........Great job out there guys!

Reading this report confirms my feelings on why I like to fish. There are going to be days where it seems like you can do no wrong and there will be plenty of fish to be caught and you just can't miss. Then, there will be days where you ask yourself what in the heck am I doing wrong? are there any fish here?. Then there will be days when you hook into one that you know is going to be the "The One" but it just doesn't happen. Even though you suffer a little heartbreak the thrill of the hunt keeps you coming back.

Thanks for the report Arthur!:Thumbs Up::Thumbs Up:

Great report, Arthur...Sure sorry Justin's losses were part of the drama...Every fisherman empathizes since we've ALL been there. Justin told me that you're one of the good guys.

Only temporary, it won't last for long... But I'm going to enjoy it while it last.

Great post and pictures. It just breaks your heart when something like that happens, get the major bendo fight it and know it's nice fish and before you can see color, it snaps =0( I know the feeling. Good luck on your next trip and hopefully you land that monster of a beast.
These things happens, it's the nature of the beast. But as long as you land more than what you lose, that's all that matters. :Big Grin:

Thanks Binh, Flatties count going up nicely bro. :Big Grin:
With the Iron Chef at home, I always have to have an inventory of fresh fish ready. :Envious:

Thanks for the words of wisdom my friend... so true.

Great report, Arthur...Sure sorry Justin's losses were part of the drama...Every fisherman empathizes since we've ALL been there. I lost Moby Striper, in much the same fashion, up in Frisco Bay, 40 years ago....I still wince when I think about it...Well, I better finish off this beer before it gets any saltier...
Every fisherman has a fish or two that haunts them in the back of their minds...

Oh man, I've been there done that many times Justin. Sorry to hear of the heartbreak but as long as you learn something from it, it's not a complete loss.

Nice talking to you on your drive back from the surf Art. We're really going to miss your weekly reports after July. :Crying: But hey, business before pleasure and one report a month is better than no reports at all. :Envious:

Congrats on an excellent session gentlemen! :Big Grin:
Trust me Phuong, Justin learned A LOT...
No worries bro, I'll still be around after July, just not in the frequency that I would like.
The rest of the S.W.A.T. Crew will pick up the slack in my absence.

Congrats and good job guys! Way to stick it to em out there!
Thanks Jason... I thought I saw you in the distant out there today at Beans Central.

Bonus Report #1 - Saturday 6/25/11

Bill (Which Way Out), one of our S.W.A.T. members from Santa Barbara was in town this weekend and wanted to hit the L.A. surf for the first time. I checked the conditions and saw that it was poor at best, but since he was in the area, I figured that we can take him to a couple of spots and see what we can scratch out from the surf. I also invited a new S.W.A.T. future recruit prospect to come along. Nick (n1ckxlam) is a long time FNN member and an experienced surf fisherman. Nick and I have been trying to set up a mission together for the last couple of months but our schedules never coincided until now. Nick is a paramedic and my schedule is quite sporatic. Even though we knew today wasn't going to be the ideal surf fishing day, conditions wise, I thought that it would be nice to meet Nick for the first time and see him in action. And see him in action we did! :Big Grin:

Mike (Bones) also joined us for the turbulent mission.

Met up at the A.O. at grey light and was greeted with 3-5 ft swells, murky brown water, violent washing machine action and an all you can eat salad fest.
We did our best at the spot and left after about a couple of hours and tried a couple of other areas. Same conditions and results. To make a short story even shorter, Mike, Bill and I got the dreaded Skunk. But Nick on the other hand, showed what he was made of by hanging tough and was able to pull out a couple of species from the rough surf. He also had a couple of other hook-ups that didn't make it to the sand. Way to go Nick, you impressed us all today with your performance. I don't think that I even got a bump today on the LC.

Mike, Bill & Nick, it was nice to share the sand with you guys today. It was a rough one, but trips like these make us appreciate the successful missions even that much more!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everybody...

Arthur (Wingnut)

He used to call me "Grasshopper." :Envious: You da man Mike! Let's set our misunderstandings and differences aside so the Dynamic Duo can ride again. The ball is in your court buddy. Arthur,
You cannot imagine the frustration of reading your reports while sitting at work! I walked over to my dad to show him each of the ones from this past week as soon as they were up, and we both shook our heads in amazement. They really do serve as an inspiration and motivation for those of us who constantly are thinking of hitting up the surf for the chance to pull out another monster. While those fish that make drag blistering runs and only leave us with snapped lines and visions of what could have been are some of the most agonizing moments a surf fisherman can experience, they are also some of the most motivating as well. The thought of going back the next day to see if you can discover what stole your lure is what gets you back out there ASAP. Look forward to hitting the surf with ya again soon buddy!

Nick,
Glad to see you pulling out some nice fish in tough conditions, and hope to fish with you sometime. From talking to Mike, we fish the same areas, so it should happen soon.

Bill,
Glad you could make it to fish Pea Soup, and sorry about the toe! Hope it heals up fast so you can be out there in the surf again quickly.

All the best,

Marc

Nick, Mike, Mike[kichigai1], Dave and last but not least Arthur.
Thanks for having me fish with all you guys.

That was the Biggest Swell I have every seen, let alone fish in. The water looked so promising and knowing I was with the best of SWAT, a broken big toe wasn't gonna stop me from getting out there.
Well the fish were wiser that day but with there small brains they will over step the line and will get em for sure.

I grew up in SoCal and have never been to or seen those beaches in person. Had a great time.
Once again thanks for the adventure. Till next time

Bonus S.W.A.T. Report #2 - Recon Surf Session, Friday 7/1/11

Hit the surf this morning with some of the Crew for a relaxing recon session. We knew conditions weren't the best, but it was a good opportunity to hang out and enjoy the company. Rough surf and heavy salad conditions made fishing a little tough this morning, but we didn't do too bad. Caught a few, lost a few... Everybody caught fish, didn't take many pics. Called it around 10:00am and had a nice sit-down breakfast afterwards.

Robert went back out for an afternoon session... got himself a few nice fish. I'll let him put it up if he want.

Mike (Bones), Frank (iLLest), Robert (Murrieta Angler) and Justin (Justin Oceanside), Had a great time pounding the sand with all of you this morning, see ya tomorrow!

Going to give it another go tomorrow morning at grey light.

Have a great 4th of July weekend everybody. Have fun and be safe out there.

Bonus Report #3 - Saturday 7/2 Local Surf Mission.

More of a conditions report than a fish report. :Envious:
Popped out to a local spot for a few hours with some Crew members to get away from the 100+ degrees temperature in the Valley this morning.

Great conditions... negative low tide, minimal swells, water temperature must be close to 70 degrees, no wind, very little salad, excellent water clarity.

Only one thing was missing... the fish.
Nicest conditions we've seen in awhile and the fish just weren't very active. Maybe full of Grunions...???

Nabbed ourselves a few Calico Bass and Yellow Fin Croakers, a pretty slow morning.

Surf Master Mike & Big Dave, hope you guys killed it on the rocks.

Oh well, had a great time hitting the surf with da boyz. Called it early and we all went to get some Pho for lunch. :Envious:

Mike (Bones), Robert (Murrieta Angler), Marc (BSP) and Nick (Dad), good times as always my friends. Love the conversations on the sand and over lunch. :Big Grin:

I'm on lockdown for the next couple of days. Good luck out there everybody, have a happy and safe 4th!

Isn't that the truth! Sometimes you do your best to get out when conditions are optimal and the fish don't want to cooperate and sometimes you get out when conditions aren't the best and it's WFO. :Rolls Eyes:

I'm glad that you told me where you were planning to fish Terry. You would have wasted your time at that spot at a zero low tide. Pretty much unfishable the last couple of times I recon that area at an extreme low tide.

I'm really looking forward to our join mission next Friday my friend. :Big Grin:
I'm sure that the Big Guy will be sharing the sand with us...

Isn't that the truth! Sometimes you do your best to get out when conditions are optimal and the fish don't want to cooperate and sometimes you get out when conditions aren't the best and it's WFO. :Rolls Eyes:

You guys had Tess and I fooled! Robert, bro, I heard this was all your idea. Not cool! We were ready to drive there and camp out until first light!

Thought for sure you guys would have a better day. Saw plenty of life in the water the day before and even saw a hali chasing bait. It was my first time seeing that. Pretty fricken cool!
I thought we were just going to kill it when we first got there and saw the conditions.
Oh well, even though the fish were scarce, the laughs were plenty. At lunch we were conspiring on how we were going to pull a fast one on a few of the Team members.
Robert made me do it!

Jason and Tess, heard what da boyz did to you guys yesterday, that's some cold ****, lol
The Commander is known to play a trick or two on his recruits.

Yeah, Robert & Marc were nuts. I saw Marc roll off a boiler and went under for a quick second. :EyePop:
I waded out there a bit far myself, but had a nice and dry platform to stand on. :Envious:

Great report and incredible pics as usual. I would love to have a "slow" day like that! Those conditions looked near perfect.

Happy 4th to the SWAT crew. I'm looking forward to more reports!

Harbour
Thank you...
A bit disappointing seeing how nice the conditions were, but we did manage a few decent fish.
I usually consider a "slow" day is when you don't catch your target species. Our goal is to always get at least a legal Halibut. I can go all day and if I catch just one legal Halibut, I consider that a successful day.

Tonight's dinner, just came out of the steamer... :Envious:
Lemon, ginger & onions steamed Halibut steak.

Arthur,
Even though fishing was less than optimal, I have a lot of faith that it's going to go WFO very soon. It looks "too good" for that not to happen. Had a great time sharing some laughs with you as always, and you manage to capture another picture of me looking somewhat odd.... Also, be prepared! Mike and I will get you at some point!

Mike,
It was fishing with you again buddy, even though you had a few words to say about a certain hat that I happen to be fond of. Dad and I didn't end up going out to grunion run, and chose to sleep instead. We'll definitely have to get Arthur back at some point, but I think it'll take some serious planning..... :Secret:

Robert,
Thanks for helping me out with those boiler rocks! Definitely wouldn't have been able to make it out there without your guidance and assistance at one point. Too bad there was only one calico captured when we were out there, but I am definitely looking forward to checking it out again. Also, great sharing your company out there!

Look forward to hitting the surf with all of you again!

Marc

P.S. Justin, congrats on that corvina! A very rare catch indeed, and it seems that they may be a few around down there. Might have to make a trip out there to check it out.

Bonus Report #4! Thursday 7/7/11 Grey Light Solo Recon.

Haven't been in the best of moods for the last couple of days... tomorrow is the anniversary of Dana's (Fisherman 57) passing. Decided to cheer myself up by hitting the local surf for a few hours this morning before work.

Arrived at A.O. code name "Beans Central" at grey light and found some nice conditions. Miminal swells, warm water, light salad, no wind, good water clarity and small amount of baitfish presence.

Had a pretty decent three-hour session throwing the Metallic Ayu LC, that included 5 short Halibut, 1 legal Halibut, a Sand Bass and a Sargo (new species). Hard to leave them biting but had to head to my "other" office.

Tomorrow's session will be dedicated in Dana's memory... it will be a special day, no matter what happens.

Have a great weekend all.

I didnt get a chance to fish around the point this morning, like we talked about (had to pack outta there early). Tomorrow its on though. Either Beans Central or my usual spot (got one small calico there the other day, nothing worth reporting).
Oh, I did forget to mention my one catch up north. First cast, just a practice cast on the sand to make sure everything was in working order. As I'm reeling in and walking towards my LC, a damn seagull runs up and grabs it. Battled him for a couple of minutes, for a quick C&R.
Meanwhile, a beachgoer was walking up the beach the whole time watching the fiasco. That has to be a sight to see first thing in the AM.

Bonus Report #6!
Escape "Carmageddon" Saturday 7/16/11
Santa Barbara Surf with Mikey (Exfactor) the Fishing Yoda.

Got a call from Mikey saying that he wanted to come down and hit the surf with us this weekend.
I told Mikey that this is not a good weekend for him to head South with "Carmageddon" upon us, lol. So we are going to drive up there to fish with him.
Been a few months since I fished the Northern coast and Mike (Bones) wanted to fish and hang out with Mikey too. :Big Grin:

Had a great time fishing with my Brothers as usual. Plenty of laughs and nobody got Skunked. No spectacular catches today but we thoroughly enjoyed the day.

We hit three spots today. Conditions were relatively good overall. Called it a day around 2:00pm, had a nice group lunch and headed home.

Mikey, we pounded the surf hard today didn't we? No matter what, we fish hard and whatever happens... happens. Interesting hoochie surf rig you were trying out today. I'm sure that if the Flatties were there, you would have gotten them to commit to it. First, we see you throw the surface iron in the surf, now this... you are cutting edge my friend, a trend setter. :Envious:

Mike, you were on a mission today bro, taking the lead and constantly on the attack. I knew when you lost that LC in the grey light, you were pissed and wanted to make something pay. No Mexican food for you next time! Hahahaha
Have fun with the kids tomorrow.
BTW, thanks for picking out my LC pattern today.

Marco, like we said, you are Webmaster Jeff's identical twins separated at birth, lol. jk, you look just like him. Very nice to meet and fish with you bro, any friend of Mikey is a friend of mine.
You are a man of many talents and ambitions, a true entrepreneur. Good luck with all your ventures and thank you for all the gifts & goodies! :Thumbs Up:

I can't fish tomorrow, but a few of the S.W.A.T. Crew members will be out there somewhere. :Secret:

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everybody.

Arthur (Wingnut)

"When wealth is lost, nothing is lost. When health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost."

Funny Note: As we were gearing up, Mike (Bones) says to me, "Let me pick the LC that you're going to throw today..." So I let him pick... See for yourself what he picked and what I caught on it today. :EyePop:

Here are some pics of today's excursion.

Wingnut,

It was a pleasure meeting you and learning some new tricks!

I had a blast! Wish the flat ones were bitin, but thats fishin!

The highlight of the trip for me, aside from meeting and fishing with you, was a father and son walking back up the point, with fishing rods. They had not caught anything, and the son lit up when he saw my perch hanging on my stringer as I waded in the surf and ran over asking all sorts of questions......

I took about 45 minutes to rig his rods with with the right gear, and teach him where to cast and how to retrieve the 3inch BH I tied on for him. He finally caught a nice little perch and was so excited! I left him with a handful of BH's......

This morning, just went back to the first spot we went to, at high tide and it was 5 feet deep+ to cross, I tried 4 diff spots and got to within a half inch of floodin my waders before trying another spot for one perch and lots of salad!

Look forward to fishing with you again....

Marco
Santa Barbara

PS. for the record, while I have been slayin the big perch in the surf this year on the 3 inch Big Hammers and now the LC, I never keep them, those were the first 4 perch I have kept in 4 years, and were spawned out or I would not have kept them. I have an old Chinese couple who wanted a couple and mom asked for 2 to deep fry whole.... they came out great! Next time, halibut!

Good way to escape carmageddon and beat the heat. Well done guys. The perch sure do run BIG up there in Mikey's area. Good to see Bones back in the line up. Looks like the fish showed some love for the new Wingnut Signature Series Metallic Pink Sardine. I have a feeling we'll be seeing that color producing a lot of fish in the weeks/ months to come. Looks like a great day on the water.

The fishing up in Mikey's neck of the woods at the islands and along the coast sure has been good this season. I would love to fish from some of the beaches on Rosa or Santa Cruz. I think it's safe to say we would need to upgrade the stock hooks and fish some heavier line.

Won't even pretend to say I fully understood all that happened in this "Post Plus Six"! I see some new members of the SWAT Family, the usual great times with friends on the waters, lots of fun, and of course lots of fish!

I can only wish that I was there for each and every trip with my friends, but I also know that there are other priorities in life that keep us under lock and key at times!

Congrats to all that managed to be a part of this post including those none "SWAT Members" that contribute as well!

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z286/flyngby/CIMG0087-1.jpg

Ohhh! And Brad also recalled that you were spooled that day! “Start the Motor” SNAP!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the memories and I know you will find the time to hit the waters more often than you believe yourself in the future!

I look forward to every opportunity!

Steve, I'm glad that things are starting to get settled for you and you have finally found your way back to the water.
I remember that Sargo that Brad caught on my first trip on board the Spotted Fever. He handled it very well on light gear. :Big Grin: Unlike how I handled the freight train that spooled me in ten seconds flat.
Hope to fish with you again soon my friend.

Nice Sargo. Calif State Record is open to anyone who submits a 1 lb or larger Sargo.
DR
That's surprising... I've seen a few Sargo caught that were well over a pound.

Okay, okay... I PROMISE this will be the last "Bonus" report on this thread.
Have to hop on a plane in a few hours and don't feel like starting an entire new report. :Envious:

Bonus Report #7 - The Dynamic Duo Rides Again! One for the Road... South O.C. Surf - Tuesday 7/26/11

Didn't have to fly out until this afternoon, so I decided to hit the surf this morning, "One for the Road", since I won't be able to fish for another 2-3 weeks. Gave Surf Master Mike (Kichigai1) a call last night to see if he wants to head out just like old times... After checking with his "boss", He says "Let's do it!"

Shortly after Dana (Fisherman 57) introduced me to surf fishing a few years back, Mike took me under his wings and taught me the ways of the surf.

Took the long drive South from the Valley and arrived to the A.O. at grey light. For the first hour or so, we struggled to find some clean water to fish. A heavy concentration of salad made it nearly impossible to present our lures properly. I was throwing the LC and Mike was throwing a 4" BH swim bait. The swim bait outfished the LC by a 3-1 margin today. :Envious:

We fished pretty hard from 5:30am to around noon. Grabbed a quick lunch and headed home. Finally found some clean water to work with and started putting fish on the sand. A few of them anyways... Mike & I both farmed a legal Halibut each in the skinny water today.

Not a spectacular day of "catching", but we had a good time regardless of the fish count. Mike ended up with a Sand Bass, a short White Sea Bass, and three short Halibut. I got three Barred Surf Perch, a Yellow Fin Croaker and two short Halibut.

Surf Master Mike, it was really cool fishing with you again... it was long overdue. Had a great time catching up with you and sharing fishing stories. :Big Grin:
You are getting braver in your old age, attacking those waves with even more vigor than what I can remember. I saw you get rolled a few times and pop back up and just keep on fishing. Thanks again for joining me out there today, we'll set-up another trip when I get back in a few weeks. Lets get Big Dave (DFish) and Chris (tr0psn4j) to come along next time.

Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.

Some pics of our morning session.
Damn Mike, you need to wash that gray right out of your hair...

Holy Cow Man!! I need to pay closer attention to things around here! LOL!!
Sorry Arthur, I usually do a quick scan down the left side of my screen looking for reports I haven't read yet.

Those capital letters "SEVEN BONUS" caught my eye this time!
You've been fishing alot more than I thought you have brotha!

It will take me a while to read through these 7 bonus reports but I'm sure every one of them will be worth it.
Thanks again for saving my day on the last outing we had together, it meant more to me than you know, that
someone would go out of their way for me like that, when to me, a reasonable person shouldn't of had to.
I know for certain that you aren't just an ordinary person, you're somebody extra special with a big heart of
gold and with that, some types of reasoning don't really fit. Somehow, I'm going to make you proud when
I figure out a special way to pay it forward and also give back to you.

I wish you the best in your new business endeavor. We're all going to miss you buddy, even though you'll be back
once a month!

Thanks Arthur for the flattering Pictorial LOL
It was real good to get out and reconnect with you again. I had a great time! and before I forget Thank you for driving and lunch, your generous kind nature shines through again.

At 1st I didn't think I could go but at around 3 am I woke up gave Arthur a call and we were off. The almost 2 hour drive passed quickly as we got caught up on what was going on in each others lives. Before you know it only 10 mins. seems like it had passed and we were there.

We arrive in the dark, suit up and proceed to the beach. We walk down and I scope the place out. I look around and see surffishing structure heaven. Troughs, holes, trenches and more.Unfortunately the more part included an abundance of kelp everywhere otherwise I think our numbers would have been way up.

It was an exciting trip, new territory, great company and a new location with potential. What more could someone ask for?

I had a great time and was so excited about the trip I ended up talking to Dave ( Dfish1 ) about it for a 1/2 hour

Thanks Arthur I had a great time and it was an exciting trip just like old times. lets do it again when you get back from your business trip.

Have a good 1
Mike S.

Arthur and Kichi,

Thanks for the report guys. Although you guys managed to find a few fish it sounds like the conditions were off and the bite was tough regardless I can see this was a great trip none the less. It is amazing how fishing brings together old friends and introduces us to new ones as well. Fishing sure has introduced me to a lot of good people which has resulted lasting friendships including those who I consider some of the best friends I have ever known. Including my wife who I met while I was fishing.

Fishing brings people (us) together to join in the camaraderie we as anglers all share for the sport we love. It's the peace that comes from being on the water that's like no where else. It's the adrenaline and excitement that begins with a hook set and ends with a great feeling of accomplishment leaving us a story we will likely share many times in the years to come. My sons summer basketball season is over so I will ready to fish when get back from your trip.. Really looking forward to spending some time on the water. It's been awhile since I have been out fishing with the guys.

Arthur,
SO MANY BONUS REPORTS!!!!! I agree with your resolve to start a new thread, this has just become a little to crazy after lucky #7.

Once again my friend, you're many surf fishing adventures are a motivator to us all. I know I haven't been the most regular poster of reports or board presence as of late, and it's time for that to change. It's great to see you reconnecting with some old friends again, and also good to see that you escaped Carmageddon! Hopefully we'll find some time to fish in the coming months/weeks. Between your once a month return trips and me starting school in 2.5 weeks, we should be able to figure something out!
