06-18-2011, 03:49 PM
Mission Data:
Date: Saturday, June 18th, 2011
Area of Operation: South Bay - Code name "The Munsters"
Duration: 6:00am - 11:00am

Conditions: Light overcast morning giving way to hazy sunshine. Mild on-shore breeze, water temperature 63 degrees, water clarity excellent, very little salad, 1-2 ft swells in rapid intervals, no baitfish presence, Minus low tide at greylight, slow incoming high tide.

Assault Tactics: Throwing hard baits. Ito Vision 110SW (Megabass Kibinago pattern), Lucky Craft Flash Minnow 110SP (MS Anchovy pattern), Lucky Craft Flash Minnow 110SP (Anchovy Venus pattern).

Hit the sand in the South Bay with a couple of S.W.A.T. Brothers (Murrieta Angler & Bones) at grey light this morning looking for a firefight. :Guns:
Found some willing combatants to engage and rained our arsenal of hard baits on them. Captured, interrogated and released many of all rank and file.
S.W.A.T. casualty = 0. Enemy casualty = 1 K.I.A.
Vacated the A.O. by late morning with the incoming surf erasing all traces of our existence. :Secret:

It was a good practice session for me in preparation for the Father's Day Harbor Masters Challenge in the Newport Harbor tomorrow. Stay tuned for that report...

Robert, thanks for letting me drop the hammer on your fish.
I appreciate you driving up this morning to join us. Always a pleasure standing next to you in the surf bro. Good luck on your continued mission tomorrow.

Mike, you came out to the battlefield still feeling a bit under the weather and stuck it to them. :!!!:
There's always play for Mr. Gray, lol
Enjoy your day with the kids tomorrow my friend. :Big Grin:

Have a fantastic Father's Day weekend everybody!

Arthur (Wingnut)

My father didn't tell me how to live. He lived, and let me watch him do it.

Another day in the southbay hood.....
All in all it was nice. Actually bouncing back from the flu pretty good now. Thank god we picked a FLAT beach today.
With the negative tide in the AM on a beach that needs to be filled in......We didn't do so bad!
Mighty nice for Robert to get the legals all excited so Arthur could finally hang them today and a few missed fish as well.Something tells me that the late afternoon bite at that spot is the way to go right now but hey we did our best. Damn enemies were apparently retreating in fear of us today. I REALLY wanted to KILL one ...LOL
Home by 12 noon........Took a big old nap........Nice!

Good luck to all of the fathers out there tomorrow who are taking their kids fishing. I know I'm going to have my hands full !

Those Ito vision HB's are insane looking, they look like a pissed off LC :Envious:

Very inspiring catch, so I am heading to the surf early Sun AM.

S.W.A.T. Crew strikes again:!!!: Sorry to hear Bones was under the weather I'll bet a nice 36"+ 'but would have cured him fast...j/k. But it might have helped.
Sorry I haven't kept up with your missions lately, good to see you guys still slaaaying though. Will probably hit up the No. Co. mid week when the weather out here is supposed to sizzle. :EyePop:
btw: Arthur I noticed your rods are getting "PALE"? Or is old age affecting my eyesight?
Been thinking/researching those for inshore stuff. Deciding between the Ducket or WC Teramars for my Harbour/Bay arsenal. Would appreciate your review of the rods.
Thanks,
Keep up the slayage,
LW

Arturo and Miguel,
Always a pleasure to fish with the both of you. You guys crack me up when you get together.
Arthur, you had the Hot Stick Bro. 2 legals, on a not so great conditions day, is awesome..:Big Grin:
Now that I'm wise to your game, I will be taking a lot more pictures of others catches...
Very cool to see you get that butt, just a few feet from where we were standing.

The kabobs look yummy...

Mike,
You and Arthur act like brothers abd is cool to see. Although we each didn't do so good, it was great sharing the beach with you.
At first glance I thought the butt might be a legal, but alas, the jokes started to fly when it wasn't...:Embarrassed:

:ROFL::ROFL: I'm still laughing as I write this!!!

Till next time my Friend!

I had to get to my nephnews graduation party. I stayed till 4:30 then decided to go check out conditions for Fathers Day Fishing.
I decided to hit Halibut Hotel.
When I arrived conditions were perfect...:Surprised:
I was in the water no more than 5 minutes when I get my first hook up,
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/th_AMBV0006.jpg (http://s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/?action=view&current=AMBV0006.mp4)

A small 14" hali but a hali none the less.
After a 15 minute drought I get something on the line that doesn't feel familiar?!

An 11" sand bass. Very cool, I wasn't expecting that at this particular spot...

This guy was tough to bring in, he pulled line 3 times before I beached him.

Another 15 minutes goes by and I get rocked real good but somethings not right;

It was hooked with all 3 trebles, that';s why it felt weird bringing him in.

Things were looking great till my last cast.......Threw out my LC and my reel broke...
Not seized, but broke, I haven't taken it apart yet but it doesn't look good!!

Oh well, time to buy another reel...:Big Grin:

Thanks for the memories guys, until the next time,

Very nice job out there guys! Sorry I couldn't make it out there (appreciate the invite), but I'm waiting for my heel to get better. It should be good to go next weekend, and then it's time for some halibut! I may give the Munsters a shot later this week depending on work, so I'll shoot out an invite if I do. Feel better Mike!

My goodness, I took one look at this photo and it instantly made my mouth water. Yeah, Lynn sure can cook. What a dilema you have now Art, I know you generally release most of what you catch, but meals like these will make it hard.
Nice mission SWAT. I'll call you later this week Art. Instead of Vegas, we're going to do a camping trip for my birthday. Hope you can join us bro.

PONTOON
06-19-2011, 09:42 PM
Nicely done Arthur!

Trolly: Hey Pontoon, I'm here on the pier and I see four surf fishermem all decked out in the best gear available working the coast like finely tuned machines, ya think it's the SWAT Team. Maybe they'll let me make a few cast with them?

Pontoon: Na Trolly it can't be. The SWAT Team is a mythical group of highly skilled surf fishing wizards that only a select few have ever reported seeing let alone fish with. They hit the beach like ghosts working their Lucky Crafts like an orchestra catching only the biggest perch, bass and halibut. You better look again buddy I think you may have missed them.

Trolly: Pontoon, they're gone! I swear I saw them......They were here!.......I know I saw them!

Pontoon: Don't worry Trolly I've heard a lot of reports of SWAT hitting the surf and then just dissapearing. We'll keep trying to track 'em down and catch them one morning by surprize.
Anyway Buddy we've got some catfishin' recon to do this evening. I'll see ya at the lake at 0 dark thirty and I'll tell you about my plan then.

Got home from hitting the surf and closed the trunk of my car on it.
Got a couple of back ups but pissed at myself for being so careless.

I like them a lot. Feels just like the Carrot Stix... I wonder why, lol
My favorite one is the 7' 11" Crankin' medium/heavy.
The micro-guides takes some getting used to, but worth the money.

Too bad that big one that you hung came unbuttoned...
Swells are picking up for the next few days... what are we gonna do???

Mike, you cant beat that funky pink stuff when the stomach is bubblin' The guys shouldve done this to ya :Potty: hahaha.

Good stuff guys in pulling in some nice hostile BSP's and a legal for dinner.

Arthur, that meal looks delicious brotha. Who needs a restaurant when you got a Wingnut Special cookin' in the stove? much props, my mouth just watered.

Those Ito vision HB's are insane looking, they look like a pissed off LC

Good fish, good times, see you soon Brothas.
You need to get back out there with us again soon soldier!
Did you do any fishing in Perris?
Heck yeah, I prefer good ol' home cooking over restaurant food anyday! :Big Grin:
The hollogram looking eyes on the Ito's are a trip, it hypnotizes the fish into biting.

Those Ito's are really cool looking. Do you like throwing them better Art?
Was the bent treble from the halibut mouth? Are those hooks as strong as the LC?

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/Wingnut%209/012-10.jpg
I like them for the way they look (realistic) and for the action (also realistic), like the LC's.
I don't prefer them over the LC's, just got bored and wanted to change things up once in awhile.
They are a little lighter than the LC's and that does affect casting distance. The reversed barbs on the treble hooks looks cool, but definitely not as strong as the hooks on the Saltwater version LC's, which are the Owners ST41.

Really liked the punk rock LC Arthur! I picked up some sharpies and am going to modify mine with ear rings and mascara! Juries still out on the tat's though.
I'm still anxiously waiting to see what you stick with those new "Punk Rock" LC's Mikey.
Thanks for the invite to go fish the Islands tomorrow buddy. But I played hookey for a couple of days already and the "Boss" is starting to get suspicious. lol
Good luck, get a triple for me... WSB, Yellowtail and monster Halibut.

I'm jealous. Very nice session.
The skewer looks so yummy .. thumb up for the battle & halibut recipe :D
You've had way better sessions than that Dylan, lol
Get that rod replaced yet? I broke one of mine today.

Good to see Bone's got out of the infirmary and into therapy.
Once again you guys go and pick a fight and win. "Winning".....

Sorry I couldn't make it Sat. I still need to get out and fish with Robert. Will get it done soon I hope.
Very inspiring catch, so I am heading to the surf early Sun AM.

Congrats again for Showing what SWAT can do anytime, anyplace.

Happy Fathers Day to All and good luck on Sunday
Got your text today Bill, sorry that you didn't get your target species out there, but there will be another time. On the other hand, Roy is tearing it up with those brute WSB.

Elite forces strike again.. Lots of enemies captured so far this year and I anticipate that there will be many more to come. Good job out there guys. I hope your feeling better Mike. Hope to fish with you guys soon..

JerryG
Glad to hear that you've been doing pretty good out there at the same A.O. too my friend. :Big Grin:
We need to find out where Hai got his last 40+ inch Hali...

S.W.A.T. Crew strikes again Sorry to hear Bones was under the weather I'll bet a nice 36"+ 'but would have cured him fast...j/k. But it might have helped.
Sorry I haven't kept up with your missions lately, good to see you guys still slaaaying though. Will probably hit up the No. Co. mid week when the weather out here is supposed to sizzle.
btw: Arthur I noticed your rods are getting "PALE"? Or is old age affecting my eyesight?
Been thinking/researching those for inshore stuff. Deciding between the Ducket or WC Teramars for my Harbour/Bay arsenal. Would appreciate your review of the rods.
Thanks,
Keep up the slayage,
LW
Where have you been fishing...?
A little tip, if you decide to hit the surf right now... go South. :Secret:
Yeah, I made a rod switch, but will still use the Carrot Stix from time to time. As for the review, please read my reply to Vanillagurilla. Take care and good luck out there.

Are you kidding me? Those halicabobs look awesome she is some cook ,waiting to see a bps recipe I never hear anybody keep those.well guys this is the day where all you fathers are rewarded for all the hard work and love we have given to our kids ,now we know how hard our dads worked to raise us have a good day..
Yeah, they were quite tasty. :Envious:
Never eaten a Barred Surf Perch, but I would think that they would taste like Bluegills or Crappies. :???:
I do hear that you have to be careful since some of them may have parasites in the meat.

Amazing as usual guys, Kuddo's to you all for the effort and sharing, Living Vicarious here!!!
Thanks....

The Iron Chef is Awesome... Props to the Cook... Yummmy!!

Mike, get er done old brotha!! Grey Panthers RULE!!!!

HAPPY FATHERS DAY.................

.
Thanks Frank, she took some cooking classes in college and her Mom used to own a restaurant.
Bones is worn down, but not worn out...

I was fishing hermosa pier saturday morning and i call pontoon and say, there is a group of fisherman toward the left all together i bet its the swat crew. i should of walked over there. lol i think it was 9.15
Well, so much for "In & Out without a trace..." You blew our cover Trolly!!! :Envious:
As we were working our way past the pier, I noticed a strong and pungent odor coming from the area. I thought to myself, I recognize that smell but couldn't put my nose on it... Now I know where I smelled that attrocity before... ON YOUR BOAT that day at Castaic when I boarded you from Bob's boat. Rotting Mackerel DOES NOT make for fine cologne Chris!!!
You could have come down to say hello... but we would have seen you a mile away and RAN! jk. Good luck with the Catfish season buddy. :Big Grin:

:Applause: On The Mega Low Tide Hali, Nice DoorMats Boys
Yeah, for the tide being so drawn out at that spot, we did pretty well.
Dootmats...??? They were more like placemats.

Very nice report n catch.. Food looks really good bet it tasted good ...
Tasted great, and good for you too. :Big Grin:

Man looks like you guys had a great day out there! congrats on the legal hali! Food looked awesome too
Thanks Jason, the food was fantastic. I'm waiting for a legal Halibut report from you buddy.

Hey Trolly,
Yeah, that was us out there.
When we went to leave we had to stop and admire the skills of the female volleyball players...
Take It Easy,
Robert
<><
And that was exactly what we were admiring too... their skills. :Envious: Great day to spend at the beach!

Post after I get back from fishing the high/low this afternoon.
Yesterday was going off, till my reel broke...

Robert
<><

Arturo and Miguel,
Always a pleasure to fish with the both of you. You guys crack me up when you get together.
Arthur, you had the Hot Stick Bro. 2 legals, on a not so great conditions day, is awesome..
Now that I'm wise to your game, I will be taking a lot more pictures of others catches...
Very cool to see you get that butt, just a few feet from where we were standing.
Here's the short video;

Here's the video.......CAUTION, SOME CONTENT MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR YOUNGER EARS!!

http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/th_AMBV0005.jpg (http://s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/?action=view&current=AMBV0005.mp4)

:ROFL:I'm still laughing as I write this!!!

Till next time my Friend!

I had to get to my nephnews graduation party. I stayed till 4:30 then decided to go check out conditions for Fathers Day Fishing.
I decided to hit Halibut Hotel.
When I arrived conditions were perfect...
I was in the water no more than 5 minutes when I get my first hook up,
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/th_AMBV0006.jpg (http://s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/?action=view&current=AMBV0006.mp4)

A small 14" hali but a hali none the less.
After a 15 minute drought I get something on the line that doesn't feel familiar?!
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/th_AMBV0007.jpg (http://s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/?action=view&current=AMBV0007.mp4)

An 11" sand bass. Very cool, I wasn't expecting that at this particular spot...

Another 10 minutes goes by and I feel a pretty good THUMP!!
http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/th_AMBV0008.jpg (http://s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/?action=view&current=AMBV0008.mp4)
This guy was tough to bring in, he pulled line 3 times before I beached him.

Another 15 minutes goes by and I get rocked real good but somethings not right;

http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/th_AMBV0009.jpg (http://s977.photobucket.com/albums/ae255/gudgersfishing/?action=view&current=AMBV0009.mp4)

Thanks for the memories guys, until the next time,
Robert
<><
Hilarious videos Robert... :Big Smile: Good times fishing with you bro.
Amazing how that legal Hali came righ up to the last few feet of surf to chase and hit the LC.

Sorry we couldn't join you guys out there. Looked like you guys had a blast. Congrats on the legal kill.

Yo Mike, fishing with the runs?! Damn that's some dedication. I'd hate to have an accident in my waders. Glad to see your feeling better.
If you guys were out there with us, Tess would probably caught both of my legals...
Yesterday's session was something else wasn't it...? Let's do it again soon! :Big Grin:

Very nice job out there guys! Sorry I couldn't make it out there (appreciate the invite), but I'm waiting for my heel to get better. It should be good to go next weekend, and then it's time for some halibut! I may give the Munsters a shot later this week depending on work, so I'll shoot out an invite if I do. Feel better Mike!
A heel injury...?!? I told you not to jump off the fraternity's house roof Marc! Or try to land on somebody at least. I used to be pretty good at that.
The time IS NOW Marc, grab Dad and get out there!

http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r135/Wingnut32566/Wingnut%208/Wingnut%209/006-11.jpg

I'm going to start keeping a few fish here and there, nothing wrong with that. But I will still release a fair share of them. If you saw what I've seen recently with the commercial guys out there, the fish we keep in the surf is nothing in comparisson.
Yeah she can Binh, gets her cooking genes from your mom I'm sure.
Not sure if I can join you guys on the camping trip bro, not much time left until I go into shut down mode.

Didn't know that we were being stalked Terry... I had a strange feeling all morning like we were being watched. I kept picking up a weird scent as I worked down the beach, but couldn't pinpoint what it was. Now I know that it was Catfish bait... Hahahaha
We need to put the mission together soon buddy. After July, i will be lucky if I can fish one time a month.

Good to see S.W.A.T out there protecting our coastline from enemy combatants !
Great report and fun read like always guys, thanks.

And those Halibut dishes .... MMMM
So you can sleep better at night...
Thanks man.

Damn, if Mike can do it with a bottle of pepto, I guess I could have done it with a lack of sleep. No excuses from me next time. Good job out there.
Suck it up soldier!
The bite is starting to heat up big time, get out there bro.

Super cool videos Robert, too funny! Does Bones live up to his name???
Sorry about your reel bro, time to upgrade.
Pretty decent session eventhough the surf looks pretty churned up and rough.
Art, my man, those food dish looks incredibly delicious, I think Lynn should open a restaurant. :Envious:
Mike did have a good comeback line for me, but we edited it out of the video.
Lynn cooks for fun, doesn't want to cook for a living, her salon is doing fine.

Great report and bone-us videos...Way to go, SWATters!
Hahahaha, good one Sid. Thanks for the update on your mission yesterday, we'll fish together again soon.

Looks like another fine SWAT mission was accomplished!! Good job you guys!
One of the few times that I didn't get a response from you John. We'll blame it on communications equipment malfunction.
Awesome job once again on your legal WSB buddy! :Envious:

You guys are always slaying those halibuts everytime! Every thread is a nice sized halibut. I don't remember one recently without one yet. Good job and excellent report as always arthur!
Not everytime, but pretty consistent lately... :Big Grin:
nice job on the FAT Spottie by the way. :Thumbs Up:
