hit the harbor up about 6:30am 3 of us on our tubes launched near the ferry area and headed south hittin up the hot spots! Was using a new swimbait i got from BPS that is anchovy in color has a big fat tail which makes it get hit alot on the drop. ALso used some gulp shrimp (the powerbait of the bay LOL).
Friends were using BH's and gulp shrimp and squid.
total count was
me: 9 spotties 1 calico.
friend 1: 8 spotties
friend 2: 6 spotties 2 halis medium sized

great report! i've been wanting to tube any harbor in search for the elusive spotted bay bass. i was wondering if you didn't mind sharing which harbor and where to launch. i've been doing the freshwater thing, which is fun, but want to the scenery if you know what i mean.

pipeslayer- the halis were about 12inch and 20 inch.
fishfreak- We were tubing newport harbor which is a pretty big harbor. There are tons of places to park and launch. I would park anywhere there is public streets and free parking. We usually park on one of the streets near the ferry. You can launch anywhere there is a sandy beach which is usually near the houses or a public dock which line the harbor. Just remember to bring your fishing license with a saltwater stamp!
