Impellor change...

Anyone know of a boat mechanic that can do an impellor change? They charge WAYYYY too much at Marine shops. Maybe a mobile guy or a Full time guy that does side work??

Buy a service manual if you don't want to pay the marine shops. What kind of mobile mechanic is going to come out to you for less than $110-$150? How much did the marine shop quote you? It's not generally very expensive and it certainly isn't difficult.

Thanks, never done one. Haven't kept my last few boats long enough and most had just had one done. Alot of guys would come for that price if its quick work for them. The economy helps with that desire. I haven't gotten a quote yet. I've used John Custom Marine with good results. I am very mechanically inclined. Perhaps i'll tackle the job myself if its do-able

I did mine for about $65 bucks, the cost of the impeller kit, on an 1980 Mercury 175. Ok, my wife helped me out....lol it was not difficult at all. check you tube, lot's of video's on how to accomplish it. That's where I got my info from to do it. It's worth the time, unless you just don't want to tackle it yourself, it took me about 45 mins...Good luck...

I never did it before I did mine, so just check it out...I would suggest to have someone with you as the lower unit can get a bit heavy when putting it back, since you take it off and put it back with the engine raised..

Thanks! I'll take all suggestions! I'm just pricing the kit to be prepared and i'll most likely do it during the week....a man's gotta fish on the weekend :)
