Jason and I were planning on hitting the surf this weekend and were kindly invited to join some of the S.W.A.T. members for a day of fishing. Needless to say, we were excited. :Envious:

Met up with Wingnut (Arthur), Bones (Mike), and Klocked (John) at 0500. Arthur and Mike were first at the scene.

As we were walking the trail to meet up with them, we saw a camera flash from the sand and knew they were already starting to hook up.

After a while, the boys went ahead and I trailed behind, working a little slower than they were. All of a sudden something HAMMERS my lure and it immediately pulled drag and took me to the right. I followed it for a few steps and hollered at Jason down the beach and he hollered at Wingnut further down the beach. :LOL: I knew I had something big but wasn't quite sure what it was.

When I finally work the fish up onto the sand, Jason pins it down. I still had no idea what it was. It looked like a giant croaker but pulled like a WSB. :???:

Still not knowing about what I had, before picking it up for a pic I asked Wingnut, "Does it have teeth???" and he laughed at me. :LOL:

We had a really great time fishing with the SWAT crew for the first time. :Razz:

Marc and Nick, it was a pleasure meeting you both and we hope to fish with you again sometime soon. :Big Grin:

What a report! Bravo on the Bean with the hardbait! The only time I've ever caught a Bean without a sand crab was on a grub!

1:45 A.M. post, dedication! :Cool: lol I'm out of town at the moment, so I had to log on and see how you guys did and let me tell you...I wasn't disappointed.

First off, welcome to S.W.A.T Tess and Jason! Glad to see you guys join the group! Very well deserved. It was only a matter of time, I could definitely see it coming. :Wink:

Nice too see everyone pulling a nice fish out, but DAMN Tess, you didnt have to make the guys look that bad! you weren't messing around huh. The first outing with S.W.A.T tends to bring out the best in us, trust me I know something about that too. :Secret: Great job out there with your PB and congrats on making the team. :Cool:

OMG 23" Corbina Croaker :Shocked:
I fished Corbina a whole summer 4 - 5 years back about 3 - 5 days a week after work and my PB was 22" :Embarrassed: Lots of 16" to 20" Beans out there. That was mostly with sand crabs.

Beans Central ??? I think I might know that spot Lol :Secret:

WOW....Another fun filled day in the surf with some very dedicated anglers.When I snagged that batray on the wing at greylight she went airborn in the skinny...... I faintly saw something pretty big and heavy with a white underbelly and I thought it was my PB halibut. It even felt like a halibut because the wing snag provided me with what I thought were headshakes.Darn flatfish of the wrong king really fooled me but it was a great fight never the less.
Tess......You are adorable with your patience and constant smile. I can see why poseidon is rewarding you in your surf adventures.It took me many years to put my PB 22" bean on the sand with a dropshotted gulp bait but the legal hit on a LC......Simply Amazing. I can still see that " I'm out fishing the BOYZ " shuffle dance on the beach!
Jason......You have a real winner there bro. Good job letting her outfish you again :ROFL:
All in all another nice morning session.Even though I was comming down with some serious sickness I wouldn't have missed this day for anything. I had a very sore throat,chills and a headache but I still had a smile on my face!
It's always a pleasure fishing with my fellow SWAT team members.
Marc and Nick...I know you guys got a late start but I hope you guys did well at North beans central at noon.
John...You are due for a great day out there my friend and I was considering an assault on the "WALL" with you and Brandon but I checked with the harbor master and that whole area is strictly prohibited from float tubing. I don't need a harbor patrol attack on my tube so I'm probably going to have to pass.
Arthur....Thanks for talking me into the Motrin and Hot Pho........That really fixed me up brotha.

I enjoyed your most thorough report with the boyz fishing together. to catch a bean on the LC is a rare feat, and i commend you. It's amazing that the fish even have a chance with this crowd! One thing I'm sure of after seeing this couple in action. I won't ever under estimate their abilities. They have a very good sense of direction and patience in the surf. In the past their NPH adventures were second to none.

Jason and Tess, becoming a S.W.A.T. member requires more than fishing skills. As a matter of fact, fishing skills has very little to do with my decision in welcoming somebody into our special group. There are many other variables and qualities that I take into consideration before making my choices.
I'm sure that all of the existing members would agree that the two of you have many, if not all of the qualities that we are looking for. Congrats and thank you for being the person that you are to make my decision an easy one. :Wink: Be proud, have fun, enjoy the ride and always remember to uphold the S.W.A.T. Code. :Big Grin:

Jason & Tess, I enjoyed watching you two working the sand in unison, a perfect team. The two of you complement each other well. Yes, I totally know what you mean about the batray feeling like a hali after today's encore session. I really thought (and hoped) it was a hali to rival Jason's legal. :LOL: Yours was a real tease when it showed you its white underside though. But even though it was the wrong kind of flattie, it was a pretty hefty catch!

Catching my first bean with the LC was like catching my first hali at NPH. It was my first legal and I didn't really know what I had until I saw how people reacted to it. :Secret: But now I know how rare of a catch it is and I was happy to release it for one of you boys to pick up next time. :LOL:

It was fun fishing with you and I do hope you're feeling better. We'll see if I'll be able to do my dance next time around. :Dancing Banana:

Hehehe thanks Badbeat. Even though I scream when a wave smacks me in the face or pushes me back a couple feet, I try my best to keep up. Can't be too much of a GIRL (even though Jason still ties all my lures and unhooks my fish :Secret:)

Tess / Jaysuunn welcome to the SWAT!! It looks like you both managed to keep pace with the team which says a lot.. Very nice Corbina Tess.. You will find that those really do not come easy on the lure. That was a nice one at that. I've noticed the few that do come on the lure however are generally a nicer grade of fish. I have proven method of catching corbina on crocodiles and LCs but it is only proven to work about 10% of the time at best. I look forward to fishing with you both and the rest of team soon. Looks Mike is liking the Pho.

I was in Big Bear all weekend and couldn't wait to read the weekends reports. Yours by far is my favorite everytime. Good fun ribbing of each other and exciting photos of all the action.

All in all another nice morning session.Even though I was comming down with some serious sickness I wouldn't have missed this day for anything. I had a very sore throat,chills and a headache but I still had a smile on my face!

Thanks Jerry. It's good to be part of the team. The bean definitely was a rare catch indeed. Thought it was a fat spotfin at first, but when she actually pulled it up onto the sand and I saw....a BEAN?! :Shocked: I don't think Tess cared what it was. She was just happy to pull a nice fish from the surf. :LOL:

I actually had an idea to make the LC a little more appealing for the Beans. :Idea: Maybe the next time I see them cruising around I'll give it a try. :Wink:

It was great meeting both of you out there this weekend! You guys did fantastically on your first SWAT mission, and will fit in with the rest of the team very well. Congrats on the new PB Tess as well, that is a very nice corbina and on an LC too! Look forward to seeing you guys out there again sometime, and maybe I'll make a jaunt down to your territory.

Congrats on your new status in the surf! I had good feelings at Wingnut Pugs event last fall that you 2 would become part of the SWAT Crew.

Looks like you followed the trail of the last few SWAT Members and came in with the Shock & Awe method! Pretty sure any 1 of the gang would have taken that Corbina over their PB Butt! A rare catch on the hard bait for a sand crab hunter!
