Malibu Mini-X kayak
Echo 8-weight flyrod
Rio DC24 300gr sinking tip line
9 foot leader (last 3 feet are maxima 8-pound tippet)
Clouser fly - # 6 hook, natural lead eyes, yellow thread, light olive over purple over white (my own fly, intended to look like a baby lizard-fish)

Personal best sandbass pictured below. Grabbed the fly near the boat so had to fight him by hand-stripping, took me down and snagged me on the bottom but I managed to free him, good thing I remembered the net today. Epic battle.

Rest of the 3-hour session produced only a 10-inch YFC and a bunch of lizardfish, one of the lizzies was huge however. Watched a bait-caster in a tan colored kayak land (and release by flop-out) a 27" halibut on a plastic.

Cloudy day, water is still mostly cold but staring to warm a bit.

Nice job PB there. I would like to try the kayak thing one time... looks like fun.

Welcome to FNN I hope to see more reports from a fly fisherman!

Good job on your PB sandbass. I recently tried fly fishing off my kayak, i need some more practice. Do you ever fish Castaic on the kayak?

thanks guys

no, I have never done any freshwater yakking, and don't really have any plans to, would rather rent boats at the lakes (if I ever go)

pretty happy with the local saltwater scene

Cool Report, Welcome and congrats on the PB.
Do you use a basket for your line ?

only when surf-fishing (it is absolutely necessary in the surf, even at Long Beach)

Hi SeapointFlyGuy,

Nice job fellow SW fly-flinger. Ever fished the Needlefish ? Welcome ... hadn't seen your other posts. Just read a thread about a big-time Tilapia bite that's going on at the Salton Sea. Thinkin' I might go tubin' and flickin' for the critters !!
