Dennis took the day off and asked if I could go fishing. I had some work to finish up and did not want to go. But the jerk showed up at my home and there was no way to get rid of him unless I took him fishing. We had the option of going out on the ocean and search for those migratory sand bass on the sandy bottom again, but the evening called for a small front coming through. Not very good for drifting for the sand bass, but excellent for the striped bass. I went ahead and check the barometer up at Castaic Lake. There was nice spike and that calls for a almost guarantee good day on the lake. Got to the lake pretty late in the evening and bought an annual pass for my boat and truck. I went to meter some structure on the ski arm that produced in the past. Checked the humps, ledges, and dips. All the areas had fish on it. We settled on a ledge that contained a good bulk of fish. Not quite WFO, but a very nice pick on them. Tried a few other areas and picked up a few more fish before heading back in. Pretty good evening fishing. Kept a few striped bass for my mom and neighbor. Released the rest. Between us we hooked close to 14 fish. Lost quite a few to old frayed line or that we just plain farmed. Not bad for a few hours fishing. Back to Castaic Lake pictures:

Nice day at Castaic Lake.

My first day back at Castaic Lake requires my all time favorite sandwich, Gallions large Italian combo. Oh mann... I missed this so much.

First stop. Dennis hooks on to a whooper. Major bendo. But Dennis being Dennis breaks off.

Dennis reties and is on again.

My turn.

School size.

Dropped back down and instant bendo!

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a102/dattrinh/IMG_0436.jpg
Dennis hooks up also and we got a double going.

My fish.

Another shot of the my fish. No one cares about Dennis's fish.

Dennis cheated and flops his bait back down for another quick lineside.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a102/dattrinh/IMG_0443-1.jpg
I didn't want him to outdo me so I did the same. Bendo on the drop.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a102/dattrinh/IMG_0444-1.jpg
End result.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a102/dattrinh/IMG_0446-1.jpg
More bendos.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a102/dattrinh/IMG_0447-1.jpg
More fish.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a102/dattrinh/IMG_0448-1.jpg

Fish.

Fish.

OK that's enough. This is what we kept. The tree hugger in me only wanted to clean this amount of fish.

Heading home. Parting shot of Castaic.

They were at 125 feet. I always fish this depth when I dont have a clue what depth is the ticket. First day back from a year off. Seems like there are always willing biters at this depth. Go get em Dave.

does it look like things are really turned on there, or is there still a big percentage left open for a skunk. wether from shore or boat. Im supposed to head up to pyramid in a couple weeks but if castaic is in full gear by then they have boat rentals and im looking at a fishfinder so i might head up to castaic. But if and only if the bite will be prime by friday two weeks from now. what do you think take a boat and fishfinder to castaic or shore fish pyramid.

I cant say for sure. I only fish Castaic, but I heard the shore fishing is doing quite well at Pyramid. As summer comes along, the striper fishing is going to get better and better at Castaic.

oh i go out. just like to know what im going up against. when you dont get fish that often you tend to do what you can to help your odds. Its just a lot of things have popped up recently and my next trip will probably be my last for the season. I have done lots of fishing without reports. actually this is the first year ive fished with reports. I only went on one trip last year due to and serious of unfortunate events and so im a little rusty this year. taken two trips so far this season though and im happy to say im getting back into the swing of things.

Great report!

So, how did you setup your rig? What bait did you use?

I will be doing some shore fishing this weekend and want to make sure I optimize my chance of catching some stripers.

thanks.

Activity is definitely up @ Castaic lake. I've noticed quite a few guys limiting out and yet, no reports. Very curious. Seems like the bouy line is hyper active right now. I'm probably going to get flogged because last weekend there was already a good sized crowd of people. I don't even know where the heck they came from.

Sardine, split shot and 2/0 hook. Thats easy. Heard it is super good right now!
