hit up newport with Adam (VanillaGurilla). He was using 3 inch big hammers, I was using four-inchers.
We failed to catch anything in the AM, but did get some strikes. Something bit the tail off of his swimbait. Lots of short bites around the docks.
We both tried dropshotting gulp, He got a hit, as did I, however none were hooked.
We checked out the surf, he was throwing a big hammer perch grub, while I was busy trying to find suitable-sized sandcrabs to no avail. Terrible conditions for the surf in the area, like a washing machine.. AGAIN.
After a while, we returned to the harbor, and saw a float tuber catch a bass with a chartreuse spinnerbait. Adam began tossing a christmas-tree big hammer, and got hit by a fat yellowfin croaker around 14 & a half inches long, put up a nice fight too, I could see it in the shallows zipping around really fast.. I still had nothing. After that, i continued drop-shotting, then switched to a green invader, seeing if they would hit a bright green swimbait.. No bites, switched to a small kastmaster, but STILL no luck.
We then went to the rail, and checked things out.. There were a bunch of little sargo/perch, and i was still using a kastmaster with no success.
We then made a left and checked the bridge out, lots of crap floating around under there.. I think a bass hit his BH.. cant remember.
after trying under there, we took a break and kicked it.
This asian kid came by and shot me two frozen shrimps, and I decided to c-rig a chunk on a circle-hook by the boats.. we just chilled for a while, I was expecting a croaker to hit, but a nice spotty did, instead.
Adam's got the pics of the two fish on his phone..
after that he was still kickin it, while I tossed another chunk of shrimp out, after a little while, with no bites, we decided to head home. It was grueling, two nice fish, though. overall slow, but still a nice day!
Water was COLD in the surf!
