Well I got a call from Tom a couple weeks ago and he wanted me to get him out to castaic to show him the ropes.. Hes very new to the whole bass fishing thing but hes extremely eager to learn.. In fact he just went out and bought a boat so he really needed me to get him put there to give him the lowdown on the bass fishing AND the whole boating experience...
So I met him at the main ramp in the morning and off we went.. Our plan for the fishing day was to throw reaction baits first thing then I wanted to run a couple different patterns and see how the bass reacted..
We made a pass down one side of sh%t house cove with reaction baits and when I got to the back I had nothing but one follower to show for our efforts. So i turned the boat around and worked the same stretch back out to the main lake using plastics.. By the time we got to the end we had 5 bass to show for our efforts and I was well into developing a strong pattern...
So we decided to make a run around and back to Elizabeth to see if we could duplicate my pattern.... We worked a couple main lake points along the way and picked up another couple bass.. Then we started to hit coves in and around Elizabeth and proceeded to hammer the bass..
I tightened up the pattern and we began to hit extremely specific pieces of structure in each and every cove or cut we entered... The result was a day on Castaic with lots of bass and a handful of missed bites, 5 to be exact.
By days end we had well over 20 bass. And we didnt fish all day , we spent some time cruising around the lake looking for that specific cover and showing Tom the lake...
At the end of the day Tom had a new found confidence in Bass fishing at Castaic and a better understanding of how the lake fishes this time of year.
And I left with a solid pattern to run at my NBW tournament last Friday night...
I ended up running the same pattern all night throughout the ski arm and ended up getting 2nd in the tournament.:Smile:
We caught all our bass in 4-8 ft of water, insolated shoreline structure on or next to rock....All on Plastics..Its not quite time for the reaction bite...
If you need help getting on a consistant pattern or two at Castaic, give me a call. And Ill get you on Castaic for some fun summer time action..
Here are some pics of Toms day..
