Arrived at the beach at 0600 to a minus tide and tons of structure. Murrieta Angler (Robert) gave us the guided tour to a new section of the beach as we had never been there before. The structure was amazing! Nothing we had experienced before... plenty of troughs and holes to cast/fall into.
Although the conditions looked very promising we could not get the fish to cooperate.
I got the dreaded :Skunk: :Embarrassed:, Robert caught a couple of BSP's and Tess once again outfished the boys with her mixed bag of 1 YFC, 1 BSP, and a really short Butt. Sorry for the lack of fish porn. Enjoy the pics.

The beach entrance was covered with pieces of kelp.

Tess hooks up on her first cast! She was casting sideways into one of the many holes out there.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a259/xotessox8/june%205th%202011/DSC00404.jpg

Robert hooks up soon after with a small bsp (not pictured). I also get a hit, but it quickly gets farmed. It would be awhile before the next fish is caught.

Some of the local wildlife.

As we work our way back to the entrance, Tess and Robert hook up on a couple more bsp's. Still no flatties as of yet. And then...

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a259/xotessox8/june%205th%202011/DSC00415.jpg

Success!

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a259/xotessox8/june%205th%202011/DSC00417.jpg

We were hoping things would turn around, but that would be the last fish of the day.

To add to my skunk I broke a shoe lace.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a259/xotessox8/june%205th%202011/DSC00419.jpg

This guy didn't look too happy either.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a259/xotessox8/june%205th%202011/DSC00420.jpg

Decided to take a break at around 1100, had some lunch and hit up the next spot at 1300. Again, conditions looked good, but we fished for the next few hours without a bite for any of us. Tess and I called it a day at 1600. Robert hung around for a little longer.

Parting shot.

Robert, thanks again for meeting up with us and teaching us some new things. That was a completely different fishing experience for us! We'll get 'em next time (unless you already got 'em after we left ).

Whoa, wait a minute... here's the BUTTS! Oops... wrong kind.

Wow, look at that trough right in front of Tess. I can't believe there wasn't a legal Flattie sitting in it.
Sounds like a long day... but they all can't be epic. :Envious:
We take the good along with the bad, and always one session at a time...
Roberto is an excellent mentor for you two. Stick with him and you guys will do great. :Big Grin: Gotta fly back out in the morning, be back next weekend. Hope conditions improves for another mission.

OMG. We couldn't believe it either! There were so many of those troughs, so many holes, so much structure... we worked them from the front, back, sideways, diagonally, left side, right side, every which way.. but there were barely any fish to be found. "Gotta have the bad days to appreciate the good ones" really hit home today.
And yes, Robert is really great... he taught me how not to step in a hole and go swimming. He's a beast with no fear, that guy! We're lucky he's taken us under his wing.
You're a busy guy... it's amazing how you still find time to slay. We'll see about the weekend conditions... hopefully our schedules will line up next time.

Wow, this is the same beach that i fished recently. It is amazingly different looking on a low tide. I have some interesting intel on it from a customer at work. Non-flatty intel lol. Very cool pictures of the wildlife. Poor spidercrab musta had a gambling debt.

Hey I'm glad to see you two putting a report up again so soon.
Nice job Tess way to put up the numbers!

I've been thinking I need a casting setup for throwin the Lc, but I see you two have a regular spinning setup.
What are the specs on your rods?

Thanks for the report
Ry

Another fun read after this past weekend of rain. Glad to see some were able to get out. Keep it up and enjoy the summer together.
Also good job Robert for being out there with em.:Thumbs Up:

Sweet session, Robert knows his stuff, listen to him wisely.
Jay, how do you break a shoe lace bro?
Tess, way to pull through and nailing the YFC and shortie, your getting pretty good at this surf fishing stuff. keep it up.

By the looks of it, I'll be seeing you guys shortly.

Jason,
It takes a big man to put up a skunk report when his other half outfished him !!
That happened a few times to me also. I know you are just letting her take the lead when you get to the water but soon.......
You will get real competitive with her and.......

CUT HER OFF when she is going to make that first cast to a fishy looking hole or trough

I agree with Arthur about Robert......He is an animal and a great mentor for you two down there.

Nice pics as always you two.....Stick with it. You guys are getting into it at the right time. Fishing is only going to get better!

Arthur, this place is pretty cool! Tess and I will be back sometime when the flatties slip into all the holes. It wasn't an epic day, but it was fun to see a different side to surf fishing. At one time, we turn to look for Robert and see him fishing a hole casting towards the sand. :Surprised:

Robert has been a great mentor and we've learned so much from him in the last couple of outings. He makes things look so easy sometimes. For example, we watched him cross holes like it was stepping into a little puddle. We thought "Hmmm, that looked easy" so we proceeded to cross. I had both rods in my hands with Tess hanging on to me for dear life. That plus the rising tide coming at us and trying not to trip over all the boulders at our feet. It was like a death trap, and I'm sure Robert was entertained.

That's good to see you guys are still human.

LOL yeah I saw that, I thought it felt like something was stuck to my boot when I was walking around.

We sure could have used that intel prior to the trip. Yeah the wildlife is pretty cool here, but we were hoping to see more wildlife with scales and fins.

Thanks Ryan. Tess uses a spinning setup, a 7'6" medium action rod. I use a baitcasting setup, same length but it's a medium light action. I need to upgrade and get something with more backbone though. Only bought the medium light because it was on sale.

What a team. :Romance:

Thanks. There was no rain where we were at. Sunny blue bird skies all day. It was beautiful. But I actually prefer fishing in overcast conditions.

Sweet session, Robert knows his stuff, listen to him wisely.

Really don't know how it happened. Was walking around and felt my boot loosening up. Figured my laces got untied and looked down to find the laces were missing up the middle of my boot.:???::Surprised:

Tess has been doing pretty well for herself out in the surf. We hope to see you on the sand sometime. Don't be surprised if Tess has the hot stick.

As they say... you dont know until you go. You'll get them next time Jason!
Nice job on the fish Tess!

John, I can't agree with you more. There have been days that I've gone out and I thought the fishing wasn't going to be any good because conditions were bad. Sometimes they turned out to be the best fishing days. You just never know.

Well, i usually wouldn't put up a skunk report if I was out there on my own, but Tess has been doing a really good job lately. :Applause: She did hook into some fish and given that the fishing wasn't the greatest that day, she once again outfished the boys. I just have to suck it up and take it like a man. :Embarrassed:

Robert is a beast in the surf and he's been a great mentor. We just can't walk through water as fast as he can. Check out my reply to Wingnut.

GD

GD, it was a really nice day to get out. Probably nice enough to fish in some board shorts. Yeah the boot is busted too, but I ghetto-rigged the laces so I think it's got a few more outings left in it before it needs replacing.

Thanks! Short flattie is definitely better than no flattie... I'm sure the boys would agree.

Thanks Ry. I would like to learn how to use a baitcaster but I'm afraid cauz I've seen Jason backlash and get those gnarly birdsnests and those don't look fun.

BTW, I saw that you took your gf surf fishing! Yay! It's nice to see more girls up on here.

Thanks iLLest! Ya, Robert's great... we've learned so much from him in just 2 outings. This past one was pretty brutal but still fun. Can't wait to get out there again soon. And maybe we'll see you out there sometime too. :Big Grin:

Tess & Jason,
It is most definately my pleasure to fish with the both of you.
I know if the conditions were just a little different, things would have been much better.
I still feel that the temperature drop played a huge part in the lack of fish.
Once the both of you get used to hopping the rocks the fishing will improve vastly.

Tess, once you caught that YFC on your first cast I thought it was going to go off that day, but alas, it was not meant to be that day!
Isn't it funny how people think Jason lets you go ahead in front of him to fish...

PEOPLE, SHE IS AN ANGLER THROUGH AND THROUGH!!!!!!

Jason, not much to say except that there will be other times.
As long as you stay persistant the fish will attack your LC.

Again, I had a wonderful time and look forward to our next journey...:Big Grin:

Robert, thanks again for fishing with us. We know there will be better days once summer kicks in. The weather has been fluctuating lately and seems to have been affecting the bite everywhere.

About fishing ahead, I was desperate for a fish! But your'e right about Tess, she's come a long way from her early days of pier fishing. :Fishing Catch:

FROM TESS (too lazy to log out and log back in under my name, etc. etc.):
Awwwwwww thanks Robert!! :Big Smile:
I just do my best to keep up with the boys. And I'm lucky to have you and Jason guiding me along the way. :Big Grin:
Can't wait to get back out there again... I have the itch! Hope to fish with you again soon.
