Well, I finally got my license!!! YAY!! Long-story-short: Got to the "Jewel" at about 1000hrs. Walked to the left of the marina. Saw lots and lots and lots of bass and stripers just hugging the shore from the trail. Unbelievable!!! Got to the dam and posted up for some bluegill and crappie action. NADA. Sat there for maybe an hour and decided to hit the other side. Found a little spot and sure enough, didn't get my bluegill but got a LMB. My first DVL LMB for 2011!!! Finally went back to my original spot and got 21 bluegill. Kept 12 good sized ones. The bait for bluegill was red worms. They wouldn't touch my mealworms. Maybe next weekend! BTW, the weather was nice. A bit sunny but not hot at all which made walking the trail a lot better. I did see a lot of mountain lion poop along the way. So please be careful and observant if you do fish that place! I also ran upon a dead snake. It wasn't a rattler but it sure looked like it could ruin someone's day if it were alive!! Anyway, here's a pic of that bucketmouth! 30929

Total count:

1 LMB
12 Bluegill
1 Sunburned neck and nose!! LOL!

Where's the picture of the nose?? Only joking.

So, I know I am not your wife, nor, do I really "KNOW" you...(going out on a limb here) however, you sound like a really nice guy. Respectfully, please make sure you wear sunscreen. According to some of the studies I have been reading for the Bio class I teach, men over the age of 32 are more likely to get skin cancer because they don't wear sun screen. A friend of mine who is 41 years old- fishes, plays golf- hikes- motorcycle rides- etc. He had to have about a 3 inch chunk taken out of his face and the tip of his nose removed because of skin cancer. Now his cheek is all sunken in and his face is not the same. It sure scarred the hell out of me!

I'm sure you're a handsome guy, if they had to take out a chunk of your cheek because of cancer it would change the way you look. A good idea might be to put the sunscreen on in the am before you leave, when you get to the lake, and at lunch time. Keep it simple and your handsome face protected. PS) trader Joes sunscreen does NOT work! Okay... i'm done. Sorry. Thank you for listening.

yeah, off topic, but, I'm an ex-baseball player and current PE teacher, and know several colleagues of both professions who have had cancerous moles. Don't forget the ears!

Back to DVL, I've been out of it for 2 weeks with a newborn, can't wait to get back out in the sun for some fishing at DVL! Thanks for the reports.

First DVL bass, WTG man! Oh and BTW the gills at DVL don't really prefer hard baits, softer ones work much better.

I don't think I've caught a Blue Gill. What do you use for bait? and what type of hook?

Fish-o-haulic- I love your name...

I fish for what ever is biting (ha ha). I fish for relaxation and peace. Usually I catch LMB or trout. Don't laugh at me- but I recently realized it's not about throwing a line in the water and waiting for something to bite, it's about thinking about what you want to catch and matching the bait with what you want to catch. I didn't understand that until recently. Please give me a break, I recently started fishing. I was going fishing to chill out, clear my mind, and get back in touch with my natural side. To kinda' have a purpose while I am relaxing. It's hard for me to just sit there and do nothing.

I do not enjoy going to the casino's to gamble; however, fishing is like going gambling. You spend so much money on your tackle, bait, boats, FISHING LICENCE, etc... and there is NO guarantees you will catch something; nonetheless, I would rather gamble with going fishing than loose tons of money in Vegas.

The only thing I dislike- is the trash on the banks.
