Hey guys,

Before I rent a skiff @ Davey's Locker, I want to just spend some time around NPH fishing on foot off the docks.

What are some good places to fish? And best time to fish?

And what is this "crack" that a lot of anglers are talking about?

Thanks,
Kevin

I don't do NPH but Crack is another story. Yeah :Secret:
Ghetto Dad got off the crack as a daily user but is now hooked on a more expensive habit as so many on this site.

One should excercise caution the first time as a user as it has been known to be VERY ADDICTING often times resulting in hits after hits untill one suffers from ' Crack Burnout '

'Perch Crack' is Berkley Gulp Camo Sandworms which can be used on a Carolina Rig in the surf.
You can buy the 6" worms and cut them into thirds on a # 6 or # 8 hook.
Besides Barred Surf Perch you can catch Walleyed Perch, Smelt, Baby Sharks, Halibut and more.

KevinA good tip is to look at the harbor via google maps/ google earth, that way you can look for interesting spots. Alot of good spots are nearshore, yet only accessible by boat/tube.

It's wise of you to go on foot, before renting a skiff, that way you can look for areas you cant reach on foot.

The gulp shrimps work well on a leadhead. When using gulp, multiple species will strike, especially croakers.

So this "crack" was basically Gulp sandworms this whole time?! LOL.

So I dropshot? or put these worms (after cut into 2" strips) on a jig head?

Crack is basically gulp sandworms, yep! Dropshot/carolina on a small hook as stated above. Mostly for perching in the surf as DR said.

From reports on this site, I'd suggest Gulp Shrimp and Big Hammer-esque type minnow plastics for NPH. Seem to work great on bass and buts. I've only been to NPH once, scouting like you plan to do. I myself got a short halibut on a Big Hammer on a jig head by the public dock on Fernando Street. Plan to go again some time this week.

Yep, I believe that is the one being talked about:
There is a 2" version. Usually hard to find, but if all else fails, like previously mentioned you can cut a larger one to a smaller size.
LW.
Try some Unibutter on the BH swimmies, have had good luck with it since being recommended to me.

I buy my unibutter from charkbait.

How do I hook the sand worms? With baitholder hooks or just a Owner mosquito through the head?
