Got out to Perris this morning at 6AM, where I met up with Fishmounter & Sirbluegill. We launched our float tubes at the Bernasconi side of the lake. Warm water and shorts made for a pleasant day of fishing. We were using crickets and meal worms, and the fish were cooperating. I know that both fishmounter and sirbluegill got plenty of fish themselves, and I wound up with eleven when I quit at noon, with the largest being 10". I was using a 7'7" Phenix Mirage with a Saros 1000 and 2lb. P-Line. All my fish were released unharmed to fight another day.

This one looked like she was going to explode, she was so fat with eggs.

Next time I'll try that. Actually, I like the Mirage better than my Iron Feathers, but not too much better.

Almost forgot!.. It was nice meeting you Ed, sorry we didn't really fish together. When you float tube, everyone kind of goes their own way. I was going to go in when you did to say goodbye, but every time I got closer to shore, I'd get a fish! We actually fished until about 2:30. We need to do it again soon. The bite will probably get better with summertime.

Anthony, I really enjoyed meeting both you and Jeff. I want to thank you guys for inviting me to go along with you. I had a great time. I will be going again next week.

I have my photos in PhotoBucket. When I place my cursor on a photo, a drop-down menu appears. At the bottom of the menu is "IMG CODE". Left-click the yellowish box to the right. This will copy the image-code link to your Windows Clipboard. You can then just do a paste into your FNN message.

Jeff, This was a memorable fishing trip. I really had a lot of fun. It's hard to fish together in tubes, I know. I really didn't mean to leave without saying goodbye, but It's hard to do that when only one person leaves first. You did the right thing when I left - you kept fishing! I hope to see you guys again next week. Thanks, again.

Four on left are called ---Micro Chubby Crankbaits----Float--3-4ft

Two center right --- Yo Zuri Snap Beans-----Sink----4 ft

Blue one Top right ---- Matzuo Nano Crank-----Float---3-4ft

And the Green one you saw --- Strike pro "Baby Pro" crankbait---suspend--2ft

These work perfect for shallow water I saw boils at 4ft to 7ft where I caught those gills. My larger gills though where on the mealworms and Crickets out in 26ft water, where these cranks cant go :(

Man I hope you guys left some fish for me and my family. I am thinking of making the long drive from Lancaster, I want my sons to be able to hook a few, plus my wife is getting very frustrated on not catching anything in a while.....

Looks like you guys had a blast. I'll be there shoreline near the outfall along Bernasconi Rd early in the morning for Sat relaxation from the family. I'll start leaving around 11am for another appointment. But, I'll be out in the water next Sat morning until late afternoon if someone wants to join me tubing.

I need to tell everyone that though we caught some very nice fish, it was NOT fast and furious non-stop action. We got one here , one there. I never did find a group or school of fish. The ones we did catch, you had to work for them.

Sirbluegill - Thanks for the lure info. sounds like fun to catch gills on a crankbait. Have to give it a try. Congrats all three of you on a great day.

That was very true, but the action came often enough to make it a good day of fishing.

can someone tell me how to fish bluegill and crappie and stuff like that. I have caught plenty of panfish during fishing but can never catch them while trying to. I normally catch them while fishing catfish, and most times i hook em because i use a smaller hook than i normally do for whatever reason the day that i catch them. most times have been on nightcrawlers.

I'm heading back out to Perris in the morning for (hopefully) more panfish action on the Bernasconi side. If you see an old guy wearing a red, long-sleeved shirt in a u-boat, paddle on over and introduce yourself.

Well, what do you expect when using the nightcrawlers. That's a freaking sweet dessert for all fishes. Try the cheaper mealworms and crickets. Wax worm is a bit pricey. Dropshot for mealworms, it's a Godsend for the panfishes. If you're limited on live baits, floating fly flures are best that resembles spiders, small grasshoppers, and water skippers, or better yet, float nymphs that is known for water body you're at. If you truly want to get them quick, get a cricket, some bug glue or superglue, strap them to the #12 or #10 circle hook, cast them or place them gently in the water, allowing them to wiggle at the surface when possible, and I can truly say carps and basses will slam those crickets like a woman at a free shopping frenzy. Near ripped the pole out of my tube straps while I was tend to the other one. Crappie will not hesitate to hit floating live baits if you're floating near shore in shallow water.
