Hi, I'd like to fish with z-plugs (600 and 700 series) and huddleston trout 8". I am using a Revo Toro 60 or shimano 300EJ. Do you have any suggestions on mono 25lb or braid? Which casts better? Will braid be ok or should I use a mono leader? Do you have suggestions for another equivalent reel?

Thanks!

I fish a Shimano 400TE with the Swimbaits.

No braid for swimbaits.
Use a Daiwa Luna 253 or 300.

Keep it simple. Braid for topwaters and mono for sinking type swimbaits. I like Big Game 20-25 lb test.

Thanks AngryAgent. and T-Junkie.

What do you use on the 400TE.... 25lb test?

Do you run 20 lb or 25 on they Luna 300?

I use 30lb on the Luna 253.
Many people will tell you not to but I haven't found any reason not to yet and I have been doing it for a while now. It handles the backlash of a big bait and it holds a cast worth of big bait line, which is really all you will need. (I change line each trip when fishing $75 baits)

P-Line CXX moss 30lb or Ande clear 30lb work for me.
I have casted BBZ's straight off on 20lb line though. Beware.
Sometimes I will go with 20lb CXX if I'm feeling brave. I had it when I hooked a 20lb striper on the light weight triple trout and it didn't break, but then again a split ring designed to break before it broke 20lb line did. Also I had the Luna drag locked down and I think that's 10lbs of drag or so.. so I was well protected.

I can definately relate with casting off lures. I had popped off an 8 inch Huddleston trout on 30 lb braid. Although I used 25 mono today and it was somewhat forgiving.....I was cautious. 30lb mono on a Luna sounds like a good combo. Thanks.
