after a very busy month of everything but fishing ,i decided i needed some fishing theraphy, you know the kind that envolves stripers and blood and death. the only thing was the weather has been so far behind last years ,that instead of being the end of spring its been more like the beginning of spring. i had two days so i decided i was going on a little road trip and do some killing and a little camping. got to the lake right at 6 when they were supposed to open for fishing but the quagga inspector ,whoes first day at it went to the wrong entrance at the other side of the lake so i had to park to the side till she arrived,in the mean while the guy working the gate and superviser of that gate talked to me for quite a while as we waited, by time she got there she just had to sign me off to make it offical, he had already been givin the quagga lesson from me seeings how ive been doing it since 2003 and the opening of the dvl. left the gate headed to the ramp, passing deer herd after deer herd all shapes and sizes, even several big bucks with the fuzz on the antlers, but i was so wired from the coffee i was ready to hit the water, the time at the gate gave me the time to prep the boat so it was ready to go,and i wasnt slowing down to take deer pics i saw them and took it as a good omen of fishing to come. when i got to the ramp i found they have installed pilons and chains to lock down the ramps just like they said, thats okay with me im not a striper vampire that has to fish in the dark, besides i'm too old for that action, if i cant catch during the day then i dont deserve to catch. i hit the water to find it at 66 degrees, pretty cold for this time of the year.the weather was nice the sat morning for about the first four hours then it slowly turned crappy.the shad and stripers are not setup in the reg places yet the cold water has them not yet ready for wide open action its very close . looks like a late start just like the lakes down here, all us striper killers need the summer heat to hit so the big killing can start.i fished for the first 6hrs with no takers several moves then i finally found active fish ,near the bako-boys launch ramp , just like my last visit a month ago. they were not on full blast but , i was catching them on the way in looking for the shad balls resting spots. the wind got stronger and colder as the after wore on, i picked away at the area till i killed four pig stripeys, when it died off i cruised back the dock with the sunsetting.pulled the boat out and drove to marina cleaning station , they have the best setup around you get to park right next to it its always clean and it has good lights for cleaning in the dark with a restroom right next door in cast you have to drop off trolly while you are cleaning fish. got done with the cleaning for the days kill,it was time to head to the over flow camping area ,i went ther so i wopuldnt have a bunch of noisey neighbors. well i got the tent up in record time ,got the cot and sleeping bag and everything set. i was fast asleep dreming of the next days stripey kill, when off in the distance the umpaa music strted going off along with a bunch of very load yelling a big group off in the distances getting rel drunk and loud.i pulled the sleeping bag over my head to drown out the noise it worked pretty good , i was so tired i went back to sleep only awoke a couple more times by there racket, the next thing i knew it started hailing then raining ,that put and end to the party cause it got quite real quick. next thing i knew it was time to rise and break my little camp. i got to ramp just before 6 to find it locked, the park ranger got there just a little after six, ran into some guys who went out the night before when i was coming off the lake ,they spent the night on the water they didnt catch crap and really looked tore up, me on the other hand got a good nights sleep and was ready to kill. hit the water dropped the rigs about ten minutes into it that sweet sound of the drag screaming full on, get the rod out of the holder and the fight was on, the stripey crashing the surface then doing the dives, big strong fish and great strong fights, stripey hits the net and its over for him ,he gets his pic took then into the deadwell and a ice bath. all the action sunday was just the exactly different from the day before, all the fish were taken out in the open water were they are still spawning. there was alot of boat traffic sat a little less sun, but the park rangers the sheriff's and the game wardens were all on the water checking everybody out and keeping everthing in order, the game warden both days told me i was the only one of all the fisherman catching that made feel pretty good. during the day i lost the biggest smallie ive ever hooked up on , he fought like a big striper until he finally showed his self then he went back down ,then when he finally came up again he went flying in the air doing a flyiong spinning move and shook the hook he was big fat and mean , i was pissed mr smallie had kicked my butt,i quess he was getting even for the stripeys ive been killing .half way thru the day the weather turned crappy again, right around three i was tired of no action and seeing fish just sitting, so i made a early exit, packed up the boat headed back to cleaning station did my buisness then hit the road,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,T/O,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
