View Full Version : Tradition Barracuda Report

The Tradition had some fantastic barracuda fishing over the weekend and during the week. On Tuesday the barracuda fishing was wide open with very close to limits for 17 anglers. On Friday, we had around 30 anglers catch over 100 barracuda, with a Salas 7X being the hot jig. On Saturday we had a little trouble finding them in the morning but we found them and steadily put the wood to them. The hot jig was a green Pep 5 or a black and white Tady 45. In the afternoon we had just enough time to have one long drift, and we picked up some rockfish including the nice chucklehead and red you see in the pictures. Today, the barracuda fishing was as good as it gets with a big school of barracuda. Captain Steven Konrady says he hasn’t seen a school this big in five or six years. Unfortunately the wind came up today but they ended up with well over 100 fish for 15 anglers. Anyways, I sure hope this barracuda fishing lasts. There’s nothing like hooking a nice gar on the iron, bouncing it over the rail, shaking the hook off and casting back out to catch another. Looks like we’re in for a great summer.

On another note, the Redondo Sportfishing landing office will be open around June 1st with new management headed by Larry Derr who also runs the bait operation for us. Until then, reservations for the Tradition can be made at (818) 855-9501.

That's Kam, a great fisherman and great guy as well. He was one of the high sticks on Saturday with a black and white Tady 45.

for whatever reason the alarm did not go off at 4 like it was supposed to so we never made it up there. Sorry about that. Thisfool and I plan to get up there again in the near future (and set 5 to 6 alarm clocks). We ended up going on the so Cal and saw you guys out there nailing them. Was a horrible trip for us not just fishing wise. Thisfool managed a couple and I ended up getting a couple of the extras. total of 14 fish for that boat *sighs*.

That's okay Josh. Dad and I have done that once or twice too. It's funny though about me on Sunday...I was up at the time we usually get up to go fishing, and I thought about it but told myself I really needed the rest. But after hearing how wide open the fishing was, I was kicking myself for deciding not to go as I've not been in a wide open barracuda bite in a few years.

But don't worry about it, there will be plenty of good fishing this summer and in the weeks to come.

I heard it was a early bite the the wind blew hard.
Those Pedro/LB/MDR boats had a long ride home in rough seas. LOL
Lots of Gar coming off on the Tradition and Special at noon, saw one dude dragging a gunny sack full
(too heavy to carry) Lol. Look like really light loads sunday thanks to the am rain then wind.

Looks like good times were had by all Jimmy.
