Fishing Saturday morning, May 07, 11, on the Sport Boat “Tradition” out of Redondo Beach. Met Jackpot Jimmy at 5:30 am in Redondo, who invited me to join him on his Dad’s (Phil) ¾ day boat for the day.
All the passengers boarded the boat just before 6am, and shortly after we left the dock. Picked up both Sardines and Anchovies from the bait barge and headed out the harbor around 6:30am.
The plan for the day was to seek out and destroy the newly arrived Barracuda found on Friday by the half-day boat Redondo Special. It took some patience and a bunch of other Sport Boats working together up and down the coast of Redondo, Hermosa Beach and Marina Del Rey. After almost two hours the Captain announced that Barracuda had finally made an appearance, and just ahead the New Del Mar was in full bendo mode!
We all drooled as shouts and hollers of fresh one came from the New Del Mar, a bunch of happy campers for sure? The Captain hollered there’s a huge school on the port side, throw bait, and go get em guys!
We had a light passenger load of only 16 anglers, out of 26 reservations, those 10 no shows are going to regret their decision when they read the counts! It was instant hookup for most of us throwing Iron. A few fish were hooked up on bait in the stern. 2nd and 3rd casts often resulted in hook ups, then the fish sunk out. I put two fish on in this first flurry.
My biggest Barracuda, 8.5 pounds.

The Captain played run and gun for hours, with non-stop action as soon as the fish were found. The Irons flew and the hook ups continued. These fish were all big, no shorts among them, averaging well over five pounds, up to the biggest, which was 9.3 pounds shown below:

The bummer was, he didn’t enter the Jackpot! However Bill did and he shows off his two big’ns including the Jackpot fish weighing 8.9 pounds.

At a little after noon the Barracuda sunk out for good and we made a move to the outer banks for some deep water Rockfish. It was a slow pick, with lots of Bocaccio, a few Reds, some Barber Poles, Chuckle Heads, Bank Perch and lots of Nursery fish.
I caught several Bocaccio with this one held up compared to one of my ten (limits) of Barracuda caught.

We ended the day at 3:30 pm with over a hundred Barracuda, and three or four around on the Rockfish.
No wind today, finally, with mostly overcast skies and little peeks from Father Sun.
Thanks Jimmy, fun to spend a day fishing with you on the Tradition! Nice to meet you Phil and Kudos to all the crew for a fine job, and to the cook Alex for some delicious Breakfast Burritos, and King Cong sized double cheeseburgers, yum yum, burp!
Hook up! Cory
