I had to stop by Gardena to pick up a couple sets of rod guides for some jig sticks I am building. I did not want to sit in traffic for the hour or so drive back home, so I brought along my bass rod and a few 4" fish traps. I stopped at the jetty in Long Beach to kill some time. I dont usually fish from the shoreline anymore and it has been years since I been back to Pier J. Went to some familiar rocks from years pass and found the bass still in the area. There were some decent bass with a few nice chunky ones mixed in. There were also some croakers and some unidentifiable fish that dashed out of the rocks to take a swipe at my swimbait. Lots of wildlife at night...cats, rats, raccoons, and the po-po. Traffic avoidance pictures:

Thanks for sharing dude. Racoons? That's pretty cool! Idk about the rats tho.
I've never fished pier j but maybe I should!

Edit: I just googled this pier j. I think I have fished here. Its the "public fishing area" on harbor scenic drive correct?

This place is hard to fish with the rocks below the water. Pm me some tips if u can.

Hi Marzocchi,

Good to hear there are fishys hanging around. On the po-po's ..... are there sections one can't park along the fishable section of the road there or is there a day or time not allowed? Don't want to go over there and find I can't legally park there at that specific time frame. Went there many years ago and it said NO PARKING, with everybody ignoring the signs, but don't remember the specifics. Hope for good news but ....

I think there is a section that you can't park because there isn't any room to park along the rail without blocking entrance to the parking area... I may be wrong.

Yup, Free parking next to the water 6 am to 10 pm. It is about 1/2 mile long.

Take the 710 all the way the pass the Queen Mary and stay on the right and go right at the Y on
Harbor Scenic Drive go under the overpass and stay to the right then cruise to the end of the Public fishing area and flip a U turn and pull in. Gets kinda crowded sometimes on the weekends. It is best to scope out the spots as you drive by before the U turn.

There is only 1 Pier J public free area. I think your thinking about near the launch ramp or Queen Mary area where you can't park. The public area is past the Queen Mary past the Heli Pad/Fire Station/Cruise Terminal (Dome) farther out.

It is also a good place for you single guys to take your GF for some sit in the car time and ?

You can see the Cops or Harbor Patrol drive by first before they hit the U turn to enter.
Gives you time to bottoms up and destroy the evidence.:Beer Toast:
