Thanks GD- Yeah I had help with the selection from my good buddy (FNN member) Which Way Out from Santa Barbara. Used to have a boat back in the '80's and went off Long Beach out to that 14 mile reef. Long break but he got me into the idea of surf fishing so what the hell.

My new surf fishing set up is a Shimano Clarus CSS - 86 ML -2A . Lenth 8'6'' Line 6 to 12 lb. lure wt. 1/4 to 3/4 oz .Power Med Light. Action Med fast . IM7 Graphite construction. The reel is a Daiwa Exceler 2500 that came with an extra alum. spool. I have one spool with 6 lb test and the other one with 8 lb. The rod is an Steelhead trout rod . Works great for the surf .

I got this set up new out the door for $157.00 plus tax. Then I had to spool line on the 2 spools the reel comes with .
