Rod 'n' Reel: Shimano Crucial CRC711 - REVO Toro 50 - 20lb braid
HardBait: Lucky Craft Flash Minnow/Mackeral pattern
Conditions: Surf was up on the outside break and would continue to get bigger as the tide came in. Sloppy conditions to begin with and only to get worse. Meaning a limited amount of time to fish. No wind
Fishing Duration: 4 hours, 6am to 10am

This was only my 2nd time fishing this beach and I never see any reports from it.
Although the place did bring back memories of my younger days when my grandparents would bring me down here to let me ride my "boogy board" for hours while they sat there for hours keeping watch over me.

When I arrived, I scanned the beach for any obvious structure. I found the deepest hole (actually the only hole I could even see)along the shore line and made a mental note to fish that spot once it covered up with water. Caught 1 hali away from structure and 3 others in the hole I mentioned. Butt #3 got away without a pic. The shovel nose were stacked up in one area and I could feel my lure either getting bit or partially hooking them on every cast!

Fish on!!.... almost legal...

Hook up.... New species for me and this little one pulled hard....

Shovel #2...

Shovel #3... Snagged this guy in the tail. This guy put a huge bend in my rod, no wonder they call em tractors!!

Another intended target... lil' smaller than the 1st...

Last fish but not the least...

Millions of soldier clams guarding the beach... ok, bean clams! lol

Way to go Jonh!
4 Hali's, 4 hours...hmm, sounds familiar...:Big Grin:
Those Shovelnose fight pretty good for their size.
Those bean clams are excellent for catching Spot Fin Croakers and I know where they are at right now...
I might be up your way on Saturday, if I cruise up I'll give you a call now that I have my phone...:Embarrassed:

Great job John!
I was thinking about that spot just last sunday. That beach is famous for very large beans as well. Did you see any up in the skinny?
How are the crab beds there?

Thanks Patrick, those clams are about 3/4" in size. Not really worth the effort. Sunflower seeds are more betta!

Thankya Mike! I saw only 1 bean and not much evidence of sandcrabs.... yet!
The sand should be bulging with crabs by Summer time!

Nice Pics, Reminds me of Cat Harbor with SNGF stacking up. Seems everytime I fished there there was too much seaweed. With the grunion running now is the time.

I remember fishing there with Bones last year about this time. We got skunked then and I never really went back, but I do remember that the conditions looked pretty good. We both commented that there should be fish there at some point, and it looks like you've shown that to be true John! Once I'm done with school I'll be spending some time bouncing along that whole stretch of coastline since it looks like it's going to be a very productive year.

John,

Another nice report!

The few times I been there I also managed some SNGF and some short Flatties! The scenery behind us is also impressive on the hotter days when the fishing is slow!

I wouldn't count that spot out John. That spot has it's days and it holds some nice fish at times. Glad to see you made it out and caught a few fish.

Very nice solo recon mission John. I think I hit that beach once last year, got nothing, but looked like it had potential. Well, just about any beach has potential when the time is right.
Just got back in town a couple of hours ago... going to do a grey light recon at the "Pea Soup" AO. :Secret:
