I try to hit the Sierras 4 times a year, usually once in mid May, twice in the summer and once in the fall.
I have never participated in an opener, but I follow the reports in the newspapers, WON, but mostly here.
Usually, this message board is quite busy after the opener.

I have only seen one report! It was titled, 'Crowley Lake,' it was that report and a few replies. No more reports?

Anybody, how about some Eastern Sierra Reports?

Fishing results? where did you go? when? weather? funny stories? pictures? bears? good bbq?

ANYTHING???

My days of hitting the area the Monday after opener for a few days by myself are long gone...

$125 to fill my truck up before I leave, $85 to refill/top off in Bishop to get me through a few days, $100 to re-fuel to return home from Bishop area and then another $125 once I get back home so there's gas in the truck for my wife to go to work the next day...just not happening anymore for me.

I'm now relegated to fishing with buddies in group trips which is fun as heck, and when it's all said and done, you gotta pick the best times to hit the region and the opener is not even close to being the best time.

Lotta truth to what Big Country posted. I opted for varmint hunting in northern NV over the weekend, which ROCKED. We did drive through Bishop while enroute, and the usual crowds were present in town buying gas and clogging U.S. 395. The drive from Ridgecrest wasn't gridlocked, but still a lotta boats going northbound.

So, yeah, I expected a few more reports on what happened.

Well sorry for not being on the forum for a bit.. lots of stress lately.. but i did managed to get away for a brief moment.. wasnt much.. but it was sure a blast!

I finally went up north for the opener once in my life and think would be doin it every year or so if possible till I die.

I camped at my usual place, at Pleasant Valley Res. but dipped my line at Convict Lake as planned. well here area some pics for share..

the bucket that tooked me there.. sadly i had to throw away the V-lox rims inorder to make it possible to go on this trip and instead switched it with a stock rim.

"We did drive through Bishop while enroute, and the usual crowds were present in town buying gas and clogging U.S. 395." That's funny! "It was all those other cars crowding the road, not mine."

And--of course--locals aren't a part of that at all. I follow.

Left LA at 5:00 am Sunday and arrived in Bridgeport at 10:45 just as my buddy from Santa Cruz who had stayed the night in Reno the night before was pulling in. We checked into the Bridgeport Inn and drove to Upper Twin, rented a boat and trolled for big browns (weighted line, rapalas, fish finders, etc), all afternoon without even one strike. Folks on the shore were doing okay with power bait but overall, very few fish. Weather was beautiful..been coming up here for 20 years and almost always get into a bunch of fish. Next morning, we trolled Lower Twin with one massive strike and lost fish and zippo...nothing, then high winds. Again, we were fishing with big lures and heavier gear so we didn't expect many dinkers, but still, very slow. People on shore were killing it with worms. Nobody caught many fish trolling. That afternoon, we went to the East Walker and it was pretty much blown out with high, fast water. Went to Rhinos, ate and drank, then caught the Laker game back at the room. Next morning, trolled the Reservoir for the first time, caught a 2-3 lb bow trolling a small Firetiger Rapala (recommended by the cool dudes at the boat rental/marina). Have never used that lure before and it was the only one to produce a fish. By 11:30, the resevoir was blown out by high winds and white caps so we left to check out the West Walker. On the the drive through Devils's Gate, we saw a huge bobcat with a heavy winter coat cross the 395...bad, ***! West walker looked beautiful but was again, very high and fast. Went back to the Inn, had drinks...then walked Bridgeport into the hills and came across the Bridgeport graveyard filled with old timers from Bodie and founders of the area like Lundy, Hunewell, Sinnimon, etc. Dinner, adult beverages and bed early...left at 7:00 am, said goodbye to my buddy who drove North, I went South and stopped at Convict for a couple of hours. Walked the lake, casted a few times but didn't push it. It was already a skunk weekend and decided to just dig being in nature. I photo'd the spectacular scenery...it was a perfect Sierra morning, then I drove home.

I usually do this trip twice a year and have never caught this few fish.

Already dreaming of September.
