The wind didn’t sound too pleasant but they were WRONG and it was beautiful for most of the day. We started the day by making some drifts that didn’t result in much besides a few nice reds and boscos. We moved to a different area where we had a steady pick on some nice boscos which were eager to bite sardines. Also in this area were plentiful sand dabs, and to avoid getting those and since the drift was relatively slow, I decided to drop down a plastic grub on a two ounce leadhead with squid, and I was rewarded with two nice boscos, even though it was hard to feel the bite on straight 12 pound monofilament. After this we anchored up but not a whole lot came up so we moved further south to a new area. In this area, we had a nice pick on belindas (speckled rockfish) and square spots (bank perch). To end the day, we had a few drifts where we picked up some medium sized boccaccio and a few others.
Not wide open by any means, but we picked a few nice ones today. Jackpot went to Dr. Charles Kelman with a nice 3-1/2 pound vermillion rockfish, great job Chuck! In recent news, Redondo Sportfishing is slated to open hopefully in the coming week with new management headed by Larry Derr. Next what we need is some surface action, and it looks promising as there is tons of life in the area. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come!
