After seeing SWAT's consistent reports of 8 lb surf perch, I was reluctant to post my report...lol!!!

Gotta contribute though, so here it is..enjoy and thanks guys!!


Hey guys,

Haven’t fished in a couple weeks, I have been busy camping with my daughters and spending time with them. So I have been itching pretty bad to hit the surf.

I was supposed to meet up with a good friend at a lake today at around 10am, but I decided to go earlier to check it out. Water was very dirty and green, and wfo lake slime and bugs, so I decided to leave there and go hit the surf.

Arrived at Spot #1 at around 9 am, parked my truck, and headed down to the water.

Shimano Stimula 9 6
Shimano Sahara 2500 w/6lb test
18” PLine 5 lb Fluoro, Carolina Rigged
# 6 Mosquito Hooks
GULP! 2” Sandworm

Made my first cast, and instantly caught some weeds. Second cast…weeds..third cast…more weeds. This went on for about 15 minutes until I finally got irritated, and decided to hit my trusty Spot #2, a little further south.

Arrived about 15 minutes later, and could tell that the water hear was cleaner, with less weeds. Made my first cast, and BAM! Fish on! I drug it through the pounding surf, and beached my first perch of the day. Small fish, but a fish, lol.

Ima make this report shorter than normal guys, sorry, Im exhausted, lol.

Basically, Spot #2 was excellent today, not so much in quality, but in quanity. I did manage to pick a few “nicer” ones, but in general, they were all on the smaller side. Once I found them, it was very good fishing for the couple hours that I was there.

6 FELL OFF RIGHT BEFORE THEY HIT THE SAND, LOL
MISSED AT LEAST 2 DOZEN HITS

I don’t know what it is, especially since the fish are usually on the smaller side for me, but I LOVE fishing these damn perch….they’re fun to me, lol.
Gave it a couple hours, and left them still wanting to bite a little, I had to go home. Great day to be at the beach slayin fish!!!

ALL FISH RELEASED!!!!! PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GUYS THAT ARE READING THIS AND HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO START SURF FISHING..GET OUT THERE...IM SURE SOME OF YOU GUYS MIGHT THINK IT MIGHT BE TOO COMPLICATED, OR WHATEVER...ITS NOT..AT LEAST NOT TO START OUT....THERES A GREAT LINK ON HERE REGARDING SURF FISHING, AND MOST OF US WOULD BE WILLING TO HELP YOU BUY YOUR BASICS.....pm me if you need any help, i am NOT a guru by any means..but I could at least get you started in the right direction with rod, reel, and basic tackle suggestions.....

lol..of course i know the old rule...yeah....i was thinking the same thing..of course...AFTER i spent money on the precuts...grrr...


Im going to try a new area tomorrow..I hope we can get a few decent fish..well see

thanks man.....that would be nice...wouldnt expect THE spots..if you can at least let me know some that are convenient to access, not 2 miles of walking, and that i can catch a perch with some size or maybe a hali.that would be great!! thanks man

thanks guys....im gettin tired of these small perch...theyre fun and all..but i want something to PULL!!! lol....thinking about maybe hitting up a spot i got in Laguna tomorrow...fish are bigger, if they want to bite..still not pigs like up north tho

I love trout fishing . I will always trout fish. I live close to the ocean and there is no reason I should not be going down there and fishing. I can't wait to get out for the first time . :Big Grin:
