For spring break my wife and i decided to head to my lil sisters house in Rio Vista for some RnR. This wasnt a fishing trip but how could i stay away with water all around. My Bro inlaw Travis and i decided to call on Local Guide Rus Syders for a lesson in Delta Bassin.I fished 2 half days and the one full day with Rus.
Day one: not knowing my way around i fell back on LA liprippers report on Antioch Marina. Nice place free parking and there were fish. got bit and landed four of the fish, all LMB . used Fly lined Senkos. saw a young boy land an healthy 3 1/2lb fish...and release it on a flylined crawler:Smile: i saw multiple bed fish in the marina but i dont really like catching fish 2' away by pissing them off, so i left them alone. the old guy accross from me had no problem catching and keeping a limit of five bed fish:Evil:
Day2: headed up the Sac river to fish a few points that a friend had told me about. bummer is we had a verry small window to fish as Trav being in the Airforce had a schedule change before we arrived and his week off to hang with us turned into workin everyday. we fished for 3 hours but were unable to locate the fish.
Day3: met with Rus Snyders at Orwood Marina for a day of Bassin. Rus boat was in the shop so he had one of his sponsors boats from Black Dog Baits.Bitchen Boat! fastest boat ive EVER been on! the plan was to fish giant pools off the river where the Bass have been holding. we werent targeting striper today but while heading to one of the pools we see birds crashing, we start throwins Stripey type baits and i get a big Blowup but it doesnt stick. we work the area for nada and move into the pool. now when i say pool im talkin about the size of 6 football fields all around!you wouldnt even know theese pools exist if you dont drive through the 8' wall of veggies. its crazy theese pools are huge and shallow so you have to be aware of the tides going in and out.
At high tide we fished flylined Senkos, that was fun but ive done that. as soon as the tide started goin out we switched to Topwater Frogs....now that was fun! they were killin the frogs. i ended up with 16 or so fish and a PB! great dayhttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/IMG_1131.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/IMG_1132.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/IMG_1137.pnghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/IMG_1127.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/IMG_1129.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/IMG_1130.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/IMG_1123.jpg
we took the kids out the last day for a dink striper day and they loved it.
all in all a great trip, its beautiful up there. the river is unreal! there rivers, fingers, sloughs everywhere and EVERY spot looks fishy but most spots dont seem to hold fish. my hats off to you Delta guys, it aint easy out there.http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/jake1.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/jake2.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/jake3.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/kaylee1.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/kaylee2.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/041.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/052.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/089.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/091.jpghttp://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb365/finsmackdown/092.jpg

TB, i knew this was going to come up! Haha.......heres the story, Trav and my sis have been out there for almost a year and have only landed a handful of fish. So the decision was made to just put him on fish so that he would have a few spots to consistantly pluck some fish when they go out. I only targeted the Striles for a few hours one day. Also i didnt bring my boat, BIG mistake. The plan was to use Travis new boat but when i got there he had no depth finder. I wasnt about to take their new 30k boat out with no depthfinder out there. Next time i will bring my boat and get them stripey!

Congrats on what appears to be a great delta experience. Russ is the man out there...Outside of Bobby Barrack, he's the guy I'd fish with for sure. I hope the striper bite is better for you on your next trip.
