The kids are off school this week for “Spring Break” so let’s go fishing. One of the kids fishing with us today is visiting from Nevada.

Location: Lake Mission Viejo
Limit: 4 fish per person
All I can say about today was what a freaking blast!! Our total fish count was in the 50's easily for 8 people. Each one of us limited out. We got on the lake after 9:00am but everywhere I took them we caught fish. At one spot we had a 14lb bass come up and try to get our catch. It was very cloudy all day and all we see is this big dark shadow chasing the trout up. When it was unsuccessful in getting our trout, it moved over to Vince’s boat where he was snapped off. The bass got a hold of one of his trout without them seeing the bass entirely. Zzzzzzz!! Bye bye trouty!! I didn’t get a picture of the bass.
We used mealworms and nightcrawlers for the majority of our fish. The nightcrawlers were also rigged split shot style on a 3-foot leader. Quan had the mealworms and nightcrawlers also rigged on a 2.5 foot drop shot rig with a #8 Owner mosquito hook. He tried different techniques during the day. We caught quite a few bluegill on the powermouse as they get ready to spawn. No matter what was tossed it was getting’ bit other than powerbait. It hasn’t really worked for me on the last few outings.
Weather was sort of on the chilly side with wind coming up early and a slight drizzle in the morning. A jacket was a must have to keep warm enough. We pretty much and nearly had the lake all to oursleves. While coming in, no other boat rental was out on the lake other than Vince’s. How often can you get on a lake and only see 3 other boats out. When we were done fishing, we gave Glenn a call to tell him what the damage was. He didn’t believe us so here are the pictures to prove it. The kids caught all of the bigger rainbow trout. Lots of trout are still in the lake and very few anglers are pursuing them. When was the last trout stocking at LMV?

This was her first fishing trip ever. She had caught a bunch of bluegill and some trout. She hooked up to a 5lb Nebraska for which Quan holds the fish up for picture credit. The 5lb Nebraska wasn’t getting away from the fish fry planned for Thursday night.

She hooks into this 5lb Nebraska as it strips 40 yards off the reel in one run. It heads for the depths of 50+ feet. At first we couldn’t stop it on 2# test. Luckily it didn’t anchor wrap up us.

These guys caught about 30 fish today with the majority of them being bluegill. But they also caught a fair share of rainbow trout with a few of them being lightning trout.

Because today was a good bite they want to come back tomorrow. I have stuff to do in the morning but wouldn't mind another outing. We'll see. Not so sure yet.
