So... annual spring break fishing at my local Lake Lopez...

In my float tube for the 2nd year and the lake was up about 25 feet... from 70% to 93% capacity...

DAY 1

Fished by the entrance where the bridge is... couldn't go under the bridge because they closed it due to spawning...

I was out for abut 5 hours and ended up with about 10 or so... 1st one was a nice 4 pounder or so... the rest were in the 1.5 - 2 pound range except for 3 little ones

They were caught on a chartreuse spinner bait, a crawdad Rapala and a silver Rapala (Silver Rapala was most popular among the fish)

DAY 2

Launched off at Mallard Cove Boat ramp and fished the cove there and then went around the corner towards the back of the lake and even got rained on a little. Was out for about 4 hours and ended the day with about 20 or so... The biggest LMB was about 3.5 pounds (15 - 16 inches) the smallest was about 8 inches. Also caught one SMB that was about 17 inches and 3.5 pounds.

They were caught on a white spinnerbait, Chartreuse spinnerbait, and silver Rapala (Again the favorite). I even caught 2 on the troll as I kicked from one side of Mallard cove to the other... One on the white spinnerbait and the other on the Rapala... the SMB was caught on the Rapala.

All fish except for SMB were caught close to shore int eh reeds at around 5 - 7 feet deep... the SMB was caught in about 25 feet of water... I just let the Rapala countdown to the bottom and then slowly retreived it.

Is Lake Lopez near Lone Pine?

Nope... it is in Arroyo Grande... next to Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo

Looks like it is known for Bass, Crappie, & Blugill? Any trout?

I've caught a couple trout there before while fishing for crappie, but you're better off going to another lake for trout.

They haven't been stocking since the DFG lawsuit EIR deal a few years back... there are some holdovers left but its a BIG lake for finding a few trout.

Thanks for info. I was curious. Along time ago someone I ran into someone told me about this lake and touted how good the fishing was there. I couldn't remember what he said he fished for. Sounds like it is a good bass and crappie lake.

This is a very good crappie lake during the spawn, which should be happening by now.

Nioce report and pics! Makes me want to head north and go fish there!

Lopez is one of my fav lakes. I remember campin out at lopez and fishing it at night. Caught my first DD there. My aunt and I made a bet the next day too. She said I wouldnt catch any fish so we made a bet: if i didnt catch any fish I had to eat a bug that she picked out. If I did catch some fish she had to kiss one. I caught some nice size red ears and bluegills on wax worms, and took em' to camp.

Kiss Kiss! I gotta find those pic we took. Memories!

Good job on the fish
