Sunset Beach, my first(s) 4/17/11

Believe it or not, I went down to the surf with rod in hand for the first time. I went to sunset by the tower and fished the crack.
I found a spot I though looked fishy, and got a bite pretty quick but was way late on the hookset.

Kept going down the beach when I saw another spot I liked better.
It was here where I caufght my FIRST BSP and my 2nd-5th.

Was too cold, gone at 9:30. Need to wear waders.

these days there are a lot of people talking and asking about getting started surf fishing. kudos to you, ryryk, for actually gettn on the water and trying it out. wtg, im sure there will be more to follow.

You're right. I'm actually on my 17th day of being a non-smoker.

Can't wait until I start to read the surf better! I felt a little lost out there when it comes to finding and choosing a spot.

I was in the Malibu area this morning too, throwing a LC Minnow for some BSP ...I have waders but I'm sold on wearing a wetsuit...Complete freedom to wallow in the water... I do wear quick dry pants and shirt over the suit since I look like the Pillsbury Doughboy stuffed in that thing...

Jokes like that go unnoticed I think sometimes. I had a "barely legal" halibut post at one point (18in vs. 18 yrs) and I almost got flammed for not knowing regulations lmao. I c&r anyways.
