With a fresh stocking and lower flows, the Kern is fishing great. I managed to take an hour and check it out. Caught 7 and missed too many to count. After countless short bites I opened the gap on my hook slightly and increased my hook up rate. Today's bait was powerbait. With great weather predicted for the next week, the fishing should only improve as long as the flow doesn't increase dramatically. Stocking continues weekly.
Isabella has the trout derby this weekend so expect huge crowds with over $100,000 in prize money available. Entry is still open. No reports on trout as most guys pre-fishing are being tight lipped. Fishing should be great with the excellent weather prediction and stable lake level.
Crappie have been slow but should pick up with a couple of nice sunny days.
