Been a while since I posted but had to find time to share this one with some FNNers,
My bro and I launched out of CIH at daybreak and discovered perfect waters. Although today could have been the day to run to Anacapa in our 15ft Smokercraft we opted to fish more locally. We fished a well known location about 6 miles from the harbor mouth. For bait we had lots of plastics, gulp products, frozen squid and my bro's lucky chum bucket :wink:
Since we have no baittank and the sabikis havent been so lucky my brother tells me he has a plan for to get baitfish. He brings in a 2 gallon chum bucket and says "now they'll come" to us...lol... I figure as long as I dont stick my hand in the water this day, he's probably right :D
Get to the spot and set up for the first drift. To the bottom goes the squid, to the side goes the bucket and to the mid/top level goes the plastics. On the first drift we hook up with 2 nice sandies and keep one. Noticing fish boiling all around we throw like mad men but only land bait..I mean macs.. Put the live bait on the hook and set up for another drift.. this time my bro nails a nice 6.5 pound sandie. later I get a nice hit and land a chunky 5 pound sandie. Once the action dies down the clicker to the live bait rig goes off... BENDOOOO its a monster. 39 minutes of perfect fishing and my brother brings up the MUDMARLIN.. I'm guessing 80-100 pounds.. pretty good for 30 pound test though.
Later I caught a small shark 3 pounds max. sorry no pic as he got all wrapped up and needed to be releases asap..

5 sandies (2-6.5 pounds all caught on squid :roll: )
1 monster (caught on Mackeral)
1 shark (caught on squid)
lots of bait/mackeral.........
ps... the chum bucket had bait fish with us all day long :D :D
