Rich and Noah

I've never fished this far north for a 3/4 day but since Noah won a free pass on the Stardust at Fred Hall from Izorline last month, I thought it would be a good opportunity to give it a try. BTW, he came in 1st for the Small Fry Knot Tying contest.

Left OC at 4am and after 120 miles, got there early enough to hit McD's. Boat took off at 7am and headed to Santa Rosa Isl. The day before they had 44 guys. Today was 24 so we lucked out there. The boat ride was longer than I anticipated but after 3 hrs, we finally got there. Weather was so-so, a lot cooler than back at the dock.
We fished 200-250' deep and the boat was running constantly staying 'live' on each spot, so you can fish anywhere on the boat. Execellent crew, food, and comfy boat. Overall, the quality of the fish were 1-3 lbs bigger than the usual Catalina/San Clemente Isl grade. Not too many little ones. Also, was informed that they have not had live bait at all this year, so frzn squid was the only bait we used. Tried some gulp and Excite-A bait w/ no luck.
Between Noah and I, we caught 16 fish + 1 very short ling (xl lizard fish size). Our Chucklehead came #2 in the jackpot race (Jackpot was a larger Chucklehead). Fished til about 2pm and headed back to the dock. After 240 miles, 16 gals of gas, made it back home. Too far but a decent trip. Thanks to the Stardust team for donating a free pass @ Fred Hall.
Fish count- 24 people - 103 Rockfish 88 Red Snapper
