can anybody tell me when crappie season is. and were a good place to take my 2 kids so that way they can get some fun out of there first fishing trip.

Crappie a little more difficult to catch bluegill its a better species to start with try bluegill at paris with redworms.

Crappie going off at Irvine,limits 5.
Lake Henshaw is another good crappie lake. Should really bust open any day now. When they get going you can catch 'em from shore. 2 pound test, and 1/32 or 1/64 ounce jigs. Depending on water color red/ white, green/ white, chartreuse or even plain white. And "grasshopper" color power jigs work great too.
