mosquito fish as saltwater bait?

I was thinking about taking some 2 inch skeeter eaters to the pier.. Im gonna try this and get back to you guys, but would still prefer your two cents. (and no, the guppies WONT breed and create a hazard to the beach) I was thinking they would be a novel bait for the bonito.

The abrupt change to 100 percent seawater wight kill them though..

Its super easy to just catch your own smelt, and they will survive a long time.

I hate using smelt. Its fairly difficult to get them at just the right size. Also keep in mind that this is for pier fishing. I found that a nice sized bonito will strike a 2-3 inch fish more readily.

Try to keep a larger female isolated as a breeder. if this works well, maybe try buying some fancy males, so you can end up with bright colored females.

Gambusia affinis in the salt? Good idea because can tolerate a little bit of salinity. I am lazy, so I would get a Basstrix and put pro cure or smelly jelly on it. Colorado does not let ya put Gambusia in open water, so don't know if that means anything.
